New OA Framework 12.1.3.1 Consolidated Update Patch for Now Available

[July. 21, 2011 update: This patchset leaves the OA Framework version number unchanged at 12.1.3, not 12.1.3.1.]

All of the web-based content in Oracle E-Business Suite 12 depends upon the Oracle Application Framework (OAF or "OA Framework") user interface libraries and infrastructure.  Updates to OA Framework are generally delivered as part of the major Release Update Pack cycle. 

For example, the EBS 12.1.3 Release Update Pack was released in August 2010.  That Release Update Pack included the ATG 12.1.3 Family Pack, which, in turn, included the latest level of OA Framework libraries for that release.

Given the central nature of these libraries, it's a significant event when the OA Framework team releases a standalone set of updates outside of the usual Release Update Pack delivery cycle.  They have just released a new consolidated OA Framework patchset that can be applied on top of EBS 12.1.3:

What's New in this Patch?

This is an important patch for E-Business Suite 12.1.3 users.  It contains more than 25 enhancements and critical updates for OA Framework functionality. We strongly recommend that all EBS 12.1.3 users apply this patch.

Updates in this patch include:
  • Few rows are missing while exporting data from a table.
  • NoDefException when user selects a value from Look Ahead LOV
  • Segment values are cleared when a value is entered in a segment.
  • User is able to login and see the previous users list of responsibilities on the same PC
  • Graphs not rendering properly in Linux Machines
  • Insufficient privileges' issue encountered while doing forward to Embedded mode URL
  • NullPointerException encountered in OASlideMenuUtil when attempting to create commercial surrogate quote.
  • Segments not aligned to the parent segments when flex bean is added under message component layout.
  • NullPointer Exception thrown in AdvancedTable pages when the Accessibility mode is set to Screen Reader Optimized.
  • Key flexfield segments are blanked out or populated with incorrect values.
  • LOV not working in Screen Reader Optimized accessibility mode.
  • "Portlet Not Available' error in E-Business Suite Portlets integrated with WebCenter 11g.
  • Intermittent FND_NO_DATABASE_CONNECTION error observed in Configurable Home Page.
  • Invalid date error shown when attempting to enter a Daylight Saving Time (DST) change date.
  • Support to retrieve the Page Name through Javascript.
  • Ability to display errors associated with the context segment at attribute level also.
  • Support to export file as .tsv when FND_EXPORT_MIME_TYPE is set to "text/tab-separated-values".
  • Support for enabling sorting in the classic table columns that are added under a layout.
  • Serbian language support in OA Framework. This is a common fix for both Latin Serbian script and Cyrillic Serbian script.
  • Support for enhanced Popup indicators.

And, as a word for the wise: it is likely that future emergency OAF patches for EBS 12.1.3 will require this patch as a prerequisite.

Warning to Trade Management users, this patch will cause several major screens to no longer work correctly. See the following My Oracle Support Note: "Framework patch 11894708 causes java exception errors on Create Claim, Claim line and on TM System Parameters screen [ID 1323953.1]" On a more positive note, I did apply this patch at a couple customers where they do not use Trade Management, and it's fixed several issues and caused no new issues for them. For my client using Trade Management though, we encountered the issues in the referenced note.

Hi Steven. I see there are no NLS translations for this patch. Being a Framework patch, I think maybe there's no need for translations, but I just wanted to make sure about it. Thanks!

Hi Steven, Is there also a new JDeveloper (client) patch that accompanies this - we have already found connectivity may be lost to server with 12.1.3 JDev? Also we notice some funny white foreground on some text / icons etc ... has this patch gone through rigorous testing? Thanks, Gareth

Hi Steven,

I have just installed this patch. Apparently it was successful but when I go to the diagnostics page the version is still OA Framework 12.1.3. Maybe this is normal. Could you please confirm?

Yes, this is normal. This patchset doesn't change the OA Framework version number listed on the diagnostics page. That version number remains at 12.1.3 even after the application of this patch. [Side note: that was not consistent with our standards, so this behaviour will change with subsequent iterations of OAF consolidated patchsets].

You cannot upgrade directly from 11.5.9 to 12.1.3. The best starting point for planning your upgrade is the EBS Upgrade Resources Roadmap (Note 461705.1).

It's certainly possible to customize the EBS scheme. That's outside of my area of expertise, though, so I don't have specific tips on how to do this. I'd recommend logging a formal Service Request against OA Framework for assistance with this.

Issue with white background on text/icons/CSS issues caused by 12.1.3.1 was fixed by deleting the cabo cache (for reference SR 3-3817147741).

Hi, I installed the patch on linux 64 and the layout of apps manager is broken, I did not find any reference to clearing cabo cache in the readme, but I did find doc 742107.1 that instructs to clear two directories ($OA_HTML/cabo/images/cache
and
$OA_HTML/cabo/styles/cache) on server for cabo.. that plus clearing the IE browser cache did the trick.
think you should add this info on the 12.1.3.1 post since it has not been added to the readme file

Hi Steven, I did not log a service request number as I was able to resolve the issue, not sure what sort of details would you need, it was a 'clean' demo VIS instance with the 12.1.3 just installed, running on Oracle Linux 5.6 64 bits running on ESXi 5.

We need Service Requests with sufficient details to reproduce these issues in a controlled environment. This is especially true for customer-reported issues that we didn't encounter in our own tests. We didn't see this in our own tests, so we need to understand what happened in your environment that triggered the issue specifically for you.

Hello Steven,

We have completed our second iteration of the application upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to R12.1.3,

During our first Iteration users were not able to see active responsibilities so we ran Workflow Directory Services User/Role Validation” with below parameters:
p_BatchSize – 10000 (Default Value 10000)
p_Check_Dangling – Yes (Default value No)
Add missing user/role assignments – Yes (Default Value No)
Update WHO columns in WF tables – No (Default Value No)

We had to change the Profile value of Cross Business group to
"Yes" and the issue was resloved.

Now in the second iteration we are not able to see any responsibilities on the configurable homepage.

We are using the workaround by changing the profile value of "FND: Disable Configurable Homepage" "True"

I have also raised one SR for this "SR 3-6028819131"

Have faced this issue before? Can you advise how make responsibilities appear on the configurable homepage?

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered an issue with this.

We can provide general conceptual guidance here, but I'm afraid that this blog isn't the best place to get technical support for specific issues like the one that you're working through.

Your best bet would be to continue to work through your Service Request for this. If it gets stuck in the support process for some reason, you should contact Support and ask to speak with an Escalation Manager to get it back on track.

We are planning to upgrate the EBS from R12.1.3 to R12.2. Is there any major impact for OAF files.

Or

Is I have to take any step before upgrade for my custom OAF page.

EBS 12.2 isn't available yet. When it's released, I wouldn't expect that your OAF customizations will require any rework.

Oracle's Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I'll post updates here as soon as soon as they're available.
