Applications Technology Integration

We are pleased to announce the availability of Oracle E-Business Suite StartCD (often just called StartCD 51). As the fundamental installation medium for EBS, the startCD is what you begin with when installing or upgrading to Release 12.2.

This latest startCD includes many important updates and fixes, as described in the README for the patch by which it is supplied. Obtaining startCD 51 is highly recommended for all customers who will use Rapid Install to perform an installation or upgrade to Release 12.2.

  • You can download startCD 51 as Patch 22066363.

What's New in this Update?

Among other enhancements, startCD version

  • Includes important fixes for fresh install and upgrade scenarios
  • Introduces EBS use of Oracle Database 12cR1 (
  • Introduces EBS use of Oracle Fusion Middleware Web Tier Utilities
  • Installs additional technology stack patches for Oracle Database 11g and Fusion Middleware

Do I Need A New Stage Area For startCD

Yes, you must create a new stage area to use startCD A stage area created with an earlier startCD will not work. How Can I Obtain Oracle Database and Oracle Web Tier Utilities

You can download Oracle Database and Oracle Web Tier Utilities from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud as part of the Release 12.2.5 media:

  • Go to the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud and search for Oracle Financials for your platform (EBS is not shown as a product option, so you need to choose a listed product such as Financials).
  • Under Release 12.2.5, download the Zip files for "Oracle Database" and "Oracle Web Tier Utilities".

Has anyone used startCD51 on an Exadata to do a RAC installation? We are experiencing a lot of problems whilest trying to install the RAC database

  • Robert Farrington Tuesday, March 15, 2016

Sorry to hear that you've encountered an issue with this.

We can provide general guidance here, but this blog isn't the best place to get technical support for specific issues like the one you're working through.

Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support to get one of our EBS installation specialists engaged.

Want to know if this StartCD 51 has fix for hostname.domainname length 30 characters issue ?

Because doc ID 1964149.1 refers to use StartCD 48 via Patch 18086193. But it will not have latest updates and fixes.

Please help on this because our server has 31 characters length for hostname.domainname

  • Robert Farrington Monday, March 21, 2016

    Hi guest,

Prior to startCD, Rapid Install would error out if the length of (hostname+domainname) was greater than or equal to 30 characters.

From startCD, the behaviour is as follows:

    - If the length of (hostname+domainname) is greater than or equal to 30 chars, Rapid Install gives a warning, but goes ahead with the install.

    - If the length of the hostname alone is greater than or equal to 30 chars, Rapid Install reports an error.

Based on what you have said, you will get a warning but Rapid Install will allow the installation process to proceed.

We always recommend use of the latest startCD (currently, to take advantage of bug fixes and new functionality.

Thank you for your response on this. As recommended,

I will go with startCD 51 for our 11i CU2 to R12.2.4 upgrade project, but I have downloaded 61 zip files from "Oracle E-Business Suite (12.2.0)" & I will be using our exisiting 11g R2 DB ( for our R12.2 upgrade but out of these 61 zip files when running buildstage.sh (from stardCD 51) it reported that it's missing Database 12cR1 (, Fusion Middleware Web Tier Utilities & patches for Oracle Database 11g and Fusion Middleware.

So in this case, Is it OK to download those missing zipfiles from "Oracle E-Business Suite" ? Please confirm.

    1. Oracle E-Business Suite (12.2.0) for Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) ------------> I have downloaded 61 zipfiles of R12.2 media files

    2. Oracle E-Business Suite for Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) ----------> I didn't select this as it said (as our target R12 upgrade version is 12.2.4)

    Hi All,

After Several attemps to install EBS 12.2.5 using CD 50 and hitting the 38% limit during Apps Tier install progress, and after several troubleshooting, I decided to try the new CD version 51!

I was very surprise that an important component was missing from oracle edelivery web site:

    Part number: V75792-01

Description: Oracle Fusion Middleware Web Tier Utilities 11g Patch Set 7 ( for Linux x86-64

    File name: V75792-01.zip

Could anyone tell me please where to get this file (V75792-01.zip) as it does not appear from the ebs 12.2.5 for linux list, shown below as it appear on eDelivery:

    Release : Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.5 for Linux x86-64, 42 files

Selected Item Applicable Terms & Restrictions: Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.5

    Oracle Standard Terms and Restrictions

    Size: 42.3 GB

    Published Date : Oct 16, 2015

    Thank you in advance,

    Hello Steven,

Thank you for your availability. Fortunately I was able to find the missing Web Tier Utilities ( by changing the keyword (Oracle Financials) although both results have the same release name ("Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.5 for Linux x86-64").

So I will be able to test the latest version of StartCD 51 and will keep you updated on this issue.

    Hi Omar,

Oracle E-Business Suite Installation Guide: Using Rapid Install Release 12.2 (12.2.0), Part No. E22950-24, provides guidance on this. Please refer to Chapter 1, "Getting Started", section "Set Up the Stage Area", subsection "Obtain Installation Software". In the PDF version, this is pages 1-19 to 1-25.

The book is available from the Oracle E-Business Suite Documentation Web Library, Release 12.2, at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26401_01/index.htm

Fresh install on linux (RHEL 7) with CD 51 fails with "Unable to change database ID".

This problem was signaled before in the past and the solution was to use the latest CD 47. But now, the latest CD is CD 51 and the problem still exists.

    Thank you,

    Hello, Mihai,

I'm sorry that you're encountering issues with this.

Can you forward your Service Request number so that we can track this issue?

    Hi Steve,
I see 18 files with 45.6 GB in total in edelivery Oracle cloud with name "Oracle EBusiness
Suite Certified Configuration (12.2.4) for Linux x8664". What does this mean and how is different from Patchset 17919161 which is roughly 4.2 G?
Is this all needed to install EBS 12.2.4 completely from StartCD 51?
  • Steven Chan Friday, September 8, 2017
    Hi, Siva,

The label "Certified Configuration" is confusing. These images are intended only for use with Oracle Managed Cloud Services customers, not for general customer use.

Please follow the instructions here to establish your upgrade stage area and then update your stage area with the latest StartCD:

If you run into any issues, please log a Service Request; we'll get you back on track quickly.
