EBS 12.1.1 Test Starter Kit now Available for Oracle Application Testing Suite

We've discussed automated testing tools for the E-Business Suite several times on this blog, since testing is such a key part of everyone's implementation lifecycle.  An important part of our testing arsenal in E-Business Suite Development is the Oracle Application Testing Suite.  The Oracle Application Testing Suite (OATS) is built on the foundation of the e-TEST suite of products acquired from Empirix  in 2008.  The testing suite is comprised of:

   1. Oracle Load Testing for scalability, performance, and load testing
   2. Oracle Functional Testing for automated functional and regression testing
   3. Oracle Test Manager for test process management, test execution, and defect tracking

Oracle Application Testing Suite 9.0 has been supported for use with the E-Business Suite since 2009.  I'm very pleased to let you know that our E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Test Starter Kit is now available for Oracle Application Testing Suite 9.1.  You can download it here:

Oracle E-Business Suite Accelerators Now Available

Starting with OATS 9.0, the Applications Testing Suite includes Oracle E-Business Suite Accelerators, which offer support for automated functional testing and load testing for both Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 11i and 12.

In addition to using the sample Test Starter Kits that we provide, you can now create test scripts that automate both E-Business Suite Web and Oracle Forms-based screens. Using the OpenScript graphical scripting interface, your end-users can record automated test scripts by stepping through their Oracle E-Business Suite business transactions in their browsers. You can use the same interface to run scripts, parameterize script inputs, add custom test cases to validate content and extend scripts programmatically in Java.

You can also use the same interface to create automated load test scripts for Oracle Load Testing to simulate thousands of concurrent virtual users.

Your feedback is welcome

Our OATS team is very interested in hearing your feedback about how well this suite of testing tools (and the Test Starter Kit) meets your testing requirements.  If you post any comments here about your experiences with these tools, I'll be sure to pass them on to the OATS team.

Steven, This is great information. I am trying to install this so I can demo it to a customer, but I keep getting hung up on setup status "Deploying oracle application testing suite, this may take a few minutes..." at about 75% complete. - Any Ideas?

Stephen,

Glad to hear that you're giving this a try, but I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with it.

I've passed your comment on to the OATS team, but in case they don't get back to you quickly, your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

Excellent tips and information for load testing with R12 EBS. It was a pleasure meeting you at Collaborate.

We've downloaded the starter kit and have attempted to run ap_tsk_ap_launch script but can't get beyond the browser window. We have tried it with and without changing the ebs.properties file (using supplied URL and our URL for our own R12 Vision database), however neither launch. Any ideas of what could be the problem?

Hi, David,

I don't have enough hands-on experience with OATS to make any suggestions, I'm afraid. I think that your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

Please feel free to forward your Service Request number to me if it gets stuck in the support process for some reason.

Steven

What are people deploying OATS onto in terms of supporting Infrastructure - I've seen the minimum specs but am curious for the OATS load component how it scales up

Posted by Garry on August 30, 2010 at 12:54 AM PDT #

Hello, Garry,

I don't have a lot of visibility into that, but I've asked the OATS team whether they'd like to comment on this. If they don't reply here, your best bet might be to contact your Oracle account manager to get some assistance on sizing your OATS servers.

Hello Steven,

A quick quesiton, we have QTP and are looking at the Test Starter Kit availability in note [ID 239746.1]. Now Oracle has OATS will we continue to have new QTP scripts for R12?

Regards,

Iain

Hello, Iain,

Our internal development efforts are focussed around producing scripts for OATS at this point. The existing QTP Test Starter Kits will continue to be available for download, but I would not expect any new ones to be produced now.

Steven

Ramesh,

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered an issue with this.

We can provide general conceptual guidance here, but I'm afraid that this blog isn't the best place to get technical support for specific issues like the one that you're working through.

Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our OATS specialists engaged.

Hi Steven,

Is there anyway to access the objects of the OTM (like we do with QTP - QC using the OTA client). We are looking for similar features in OTM, through which we could trigger the scripts from OTM and access the Testlab pragmatically and update the steps & screenshots to the corresponding steps in the OTM testlab through java codes.

Hi, Kalidas,

I'm assuming that "OTM" stands for "Oracle Transportation Management"?

I'm afraid that I don't know. I don't have experience with OTM. Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our OTM specialists engaged.

Hi Steven,

Sorry for no being clear about my question. "OTM" - i meant "Oracle Test Manager", the OATS test management tool to store and run automated scripts.
You suggestions would be helpful.

Kalidas

Hi, Kalidas,

Ah, I see. I'm afraid that my reply still stands. We're not OATS specialists on this blog. Your best bet would be to log a Service Request against the OATS team on this one.

Hi Steven,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have some other query, I have been trying to get the EBS Test Starter Kit for web services, all i am getting is the functional and load testing ones only. It will be great if you can guide me on that. And I am really sorry for bothering you.

Kalidas

Hi, Kalidas,

I'm not all that familiar with the Test Starter Kit contents, but I'm pretty certain that they only contain functional and load-related tests. The Kits listed above are all of the kits that are available.

Steven

I am trying to find out from our ICT department if it is possible to transfer employees from one payroll to the other within the Oracle EB Suite 12.1 on the HRMS Module.

Any ideas?

Hi Steven,

Do we need to buy if we need to test it?

Thanks,
Pramod

Posted by Pramod on August 15, 2013 at 06:47 PM PDT #

Hi, Pramod,

I'm not sure what "it" refers to.

You can download trial versions of Oracle Application Testing Suite.

The Test Starter Kit is available free of charge from My Oracle Support. You need a valid My Oracle Support support licence.

Steven
