Many customers in the Public Sector are asking what a cloud computing architecture can do for their IT mandates. Can a cloud computing approach securely extend computing services to customers? Can that approach support diverse state agencies and requirements while consolidating IT overhead?
Just recently the State of Texas took on this challenge which was further complicated by Public Sector requirements, expansive fields of data and application silos, and diverse IT culture. They found that Oracle enables many types of cloud models that would allow the State of Texas project to scale its cloud incrementally and adjust resources to meet dynamic IT needs.

The end result is a progressive example for other state governments that relies on cloud service providers to provision IT resources to dozens of state agencies. Led by the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR), the state is creating the Texas Cloud Marketplace, a private cloud that utilizes engineered systems such as Oracle Exadata and Oracle Exalogic to deliver technology support while fulfilling legislative mandates using the cloud.
This technical white paper is an excellent outline of the strategy, technology and implementation of this great Texas Cloud Marketplace. And, if you're wondering whether Oracle's cloud solutions truly meet the rigorous demands of the Public Sector, read this Cloud for Public Sector overview for more details.
