We are pleased to announce that the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.8.0_301 (8u301) on the JRE 8 codeline is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) Releases 12.2 and 12.1. This JRE release is available as Patch 3276656, or alternatively from the Java SE Runtime Environment 8 Downloads site.
This article answers some questions you may have on the subject.
Are there any known issues I should be aware of?
Patches have been made available to fix an issue with Java Web Start, where attempting to open a URL from Oracle Forms or any Java applet in Oracle E-Business Suite may appear to do nothing, but no errors are seen. For more information, refer to the article New Patches to Resolve Issue With EBS Desktop Clients Using JRE 8u291 or Later.
Is it a requirement to use Java Web Start with this JRE update?
While it is not a prerequisite to use Java Web Start for this latest Java CPU, we highly recommend reviewing our previous guidance in the article Migrate to Java Web Start from Java Plug-In Now.
In addition, you should uptake this latest Java CPU whether you are currently using Java Web Start or Java Plug-in on your client tier.
Note: September 2020 was an important deadline for you if you are still using the Java Plug-in. From that date, EBS Support’s ability to help customers who continue to use the Java Plug-in is on a best-efforts basis only.
How do I get support adopting this latest Java CPU?
If you are using Java Web Start and require assistance with applying this CPU, you can log a service request for assistance from Java Support.
For those of you still in transition to Java Web Start, refer to the following question in our My Oracle Support note, FAQ: Essentials of Java Usage in Oracle E-Business Suite (MOS Note 2510500.1):
