We recently announced the availability of AD-TXK Delta 13. This is part seven in a series of blog articles to highlight the Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) System Schema Migration, a key new feature of AD-TXK Delta 13 and Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.11. This blog article focuses on frequently asked questions about the EBS System Schema Migration.

What are the Requirements to Complete the EBS System Schema Migration?

There are four requirements to complete the EBS System Schema Migration as follows:

  1. Apply AD-TXK Delta 13.
  2. Apply the EBS 12.2.11 Release Update Patch (RUP) or the EBS System Schema Migration Consolidated Patch.
  3. Update your custom code with mandatory compliance requirements.
  4. Apply the EBS System Schema Migration Completion Patch.

For more information, see the following:  Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 System Schema Migration (MOS Note 2755875.1).

Is it Mandatory to Perform the EBS System Schema Migration?

We highly recommend that customers plan for and apply the latest AD-TXK Release Updates and EBS 12.2 Release Updates in their environments.

The EBS_SYSTEM schema is introduced with AD-TXK Delta 13. EBS suite-wide product code is fully compliant with EBS System Schema Migration with the following code levels:

  • EBS Release 12.2.11 RUP, Patch 31856789.
  • EBS Releases 12.2.3 – 12.2.10 plus the EBS System Schema Migration Consolidated Patch, Patch 31817501

It is not currently a requirement to apply the EBS System Schema Migration Completion Patch (Patch 32573930), but we strongly encourage you to do so as it is likely that future releases of EBS will require the EBS_SYSTEM Schema Migration to be complete.

Do I Need to Apply all EBS System Schema Migration Required Patches in the Same Online Patching Cycle?

No, it is not a requirement to apply the required patches for the EBS System Schema Migration in the same online patching cycle. You may optionally choose to apply all of the required patches for the EBS System Schema Migration in the same online patching cycle and maintenance window. As with any EBS patch, any prerequisites must have been already applied or be applied in the same online patching cycle as the patch that requires it.

Remember that you must update your custom code with mandatory compliance requirements prior to applying the EBS System Schema Completion Patch (Patch 32573930). Note that the EBS System Schema Completion Patch will not apply if you have not applied the mandatory EBS prerequisite patches.

When is the EBS_SYSTEM Schema Enabled?

The EBS_SYSTEM schema is created as a prerequisite for the application of AD-TXK Delta 13. After the application of AD-TXK Delta 13, the EBS_SYSTEM schema is enabled and used. From this point on, all EBS administration actions (such as running adop, adadmin, and other utilities) will now prompt for the EBS_SYSTEM password instead of the SYSTEM password. Highly privileged operations that were previously run by the SYS or SYSTEM accounts are now run by EBS_SYSTEM.

To complete the EBS System Schema Migration, you need to apply either the EBS 12.2.11 RUP or Consolidated Patch, plus the Completion Patch.
