We recently announced the availability of AD-TXK Delta 13. This is part five in a series of blog articles to highlight the Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) System Schema Migration, a key new feature of AD-TXK Delta 13 and Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.11.

What are the Requirements to Complete the EBS System Schema Migration?

There are four requirements to complete the EBS System Schema Migration as follows:

  1. Apply AD-TXK Delta 13.
  2. Apply the EBS 12.2.11 Release Update Patch (RUP) or the EBS System Schema Migration Consolidated Patch.
  3. Update your custom code with mandatory compliance requirements.
  4. Apply the EBS System Schema Migration Completion Patch.

For more information, see the following:  Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 System Schema Migration (MOS Note 2755875.1).

This blog article focuses on Requirement 3:  Update your custom code with mandatory compliance requirements. The remaining requirement to complete the EBS System Schema Migration will be described in detail in an upcoming blog article.

What are the Impacts to Custom Code due to the EBS System Schema Migration?

With the EBS System Schema Migration, custom code may be identified in one of the following catgories:

1. Recommended Guidelines

  • These are guidelines that are not mandatory, but are recommended standards to be implemented in your environment.
  • The majority of development standards fall into this category and are not new, but long-standing recommendations.

EXAMPLE

The following is an example of a customization that falls into the Recommended Guideline category:

You have custom database objects that were created in the SYSTEM schema.  It is recommended that you move these custom database objects out of the SYSTEM schema.

2. Mandatory Compliance Requirements

  • There are 3 mandatory development standards for customizations to comply with in order to complete the EBS System Schema Migration. Mandatory compliance requirements include cases where your custom code is referencing or resolving to an EBS object that resides in the SYS or SYSTEM schemas.
  • Customizations with Mandatory Compliance requirements must be updated for customizations prior to running the EBS System Schema Migration Completion Patch (Patch 32573930).
  • It is estimated that the number of customizations that fall into this category is very low.  In other words, most likely you don’t have any customizations that fall into this category or if you do, the number that of customizations in this category is small.

EXAMPLE

If you do have customizations that require updating due to Mandatory Compliance requirements, the updates are straightforward. The following is an example of a customization that falls in the mandatory compliance requirement category:

Your custom code references EBS code in the SYSTEM schema:
Begin
    <…>
    system.ad_compile;
    <…>
end;

Your custom code must be updated to be compliant:
Begin
    <…>
    ad_compile;
    <…>
end;

How Do You Identify Custom Code that is Impacted by the EBS System Schema Migration?

A new EBS System Schema Migration Compliance Checker, ADSYSCC, is available to check your customizations for impact.  ADSYSCC is available with Patch 33375338.

The report that is generated when running ADSYSCC will help you identify customizations with both Recommended Guideline and Mandatory Compliance requirements.

It is possible to run ADSYSCC on an EBS 12.1.3 or EBS 12.2.3 and later environments; however, the recommendation is that you run ADSYSCC after you apply AD-TXK Delta 13 and the EBS 12.2.11 Release Update Patch (RUP) or the EBS System Schema Migration Consolidated Patch. Running ADSYSCC after applying the EBS patches for the EBS System Schema Migration will result in a report that only includes your customizations.

For more information, including the complete list of recommended guidelines and mandatory compliance requirements, see Part 3: Database Object Development Standards for Oracle E-Business Suite System Schema Migration in Developing and Deploying Customizations in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (MOS Note 1577661.1).

When Do You Need to Update Your Custom Code for the EBS System Schema Migration?

You must update your custom code with mandatory compliance requirements prior to applying the EBS System Schema Completion Patch (Patch 32573930). Failure to update custom code with mandatory compliance requirements prior to applying the EBS System Schema Completion Patch (Patch 32573930) will result in invalid custom database objects.
