Oracle periodically certifies newer releases of application technology stack components to provide improved security, supportability, and access to new features. While the Next Generation Technology Stack is not yet available, you can prepare your environment today and learn about the update process.
In our previous blog series, Preparing for the Next Gen Tech Stack, we focused on the work you can do now to prepare your Oracle E-Business Suite environment for the Next Generation Technology Stack. In this new blog series, we will walk you through the path for updating your Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 environment when the Next Generation Technology Stack becomes available.
Your path to the Next Generation Technology Stack consists of four major steps:
1. Prepare → 2. Generate → 3. Stage → 4. Update
Each step builds on the work completed in the previous step. The following diagram provides an overview of the path from preparing your existing environment through updating to the Next Generation Technology Stack.
Since Prepare was covered in our previous blog series, we will briefly review Prepare and then take a closer look at Generate, Stage, and Update.
1. Prepare: The path begins with Prepare.
Before moving forward, make sure you have completed the applicable preparation activities for your Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 environment.
In Part II of this series, we will review Prepare and the work you should complete before moving forward.
2. Generate: After you have completed the preparation work, the next step is Generate.
During this step, you generate the manifest file for your Oracle E-Business Suite environment and upload it to My Oracle Support.
In Part III, we will look more closely at Generate and explain what you need to do to create and upload the manifest file.
3. Stage: The next step is Stage.
You can begin this step by staging the media required for the Next Generation Technology Stack. To complete Stage, you will also need the migration patch and any corequisite patches identified by Oracle.
In Part IV, we will take a closer look at Stage, including the media, migration patch, and co-requisite patches you need to have in place before you begin the update.
4. Update: The final step is Update.
This is where you update your Oracle E-Business Suite environment to use the Next Generation Technology Stack. The Update step includes several activities performed as part of the Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 online patching cycle. We will start with an overview and then cover each activity individually in the remaining posts in this series.
