We are pleased to announce that Mozilla Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) 78.x is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (12.2.4 or later, and 12.1.3) on Apple macOS Big Sur (Version 11).

The requirements on the desktop client are:

  • macOS Big Sur (Version 11)
  • Firefox ESR 78.x using Java Web Start (JWS)
  • JRE 8 Update 301 (1.8.0_301 or later)

Firefox ESR 78.x on macOS Big Sur is certified both with OA Framework/HTML-based applications and Oracle Forms/Java-based applications. To see the requirements for deployment, refer to the following MOS notes:

You should also review all relevant information (including specific patching requirements and known issues) as described in the documents listed in the References section below.

What is Mozilla Firefox ESR?

Mozilla offers an Extended Support Release (ESR) for organizations whose policies do not permit deployment of the Rapid Release versions of Firefox that are released every four weeks. You can find more information about this strategy under Firefox Overview.

EBS Certification with Firefox ESR Point Releases

To address high risk security issues, Mozilla provides ESR point releases such as Firefox ESR 78.2.0 and Firefox ESR 78.3.0. These updates are considered to be certified with EBS on the day they are released. This means that you do not need to wait for any certification from Oracle before deploying such Firefox ESR security releases.

Java Plug-in Support Removed Since Firefox ESR 60

Mozilla removed Java Plug-in support as of Firefox ESR 60. This means that to run Oracle Forms-based content in EBS with Firefox ESR, you must now use Java Web Start instead of the JRE Plug-in.
