The Mozilla team released Firefox 2.0.0.20 in December, 2008. This was the last update to the Firefox 2 codeline; no further additional security or stability updates will be available for Firefox 2. E-Business Suite users can run this version of Firefox 2 safely.
Mozilla recommends that all Firefox users upgrade to Firefox 3. Firefox 3 included some changes to its rendering and focus-handling model, and until now, we've had to (reluctantly) advise E-Business Suite customers to wait for our certification to be completed before upgrading to this latest browser release.
The wait is over. I'm very pleased to announce that Firefox 3 is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite.
This certification took us a little longer than expected due to a number of compatibility issues that we found during our regular browser certification process. We've now released new OA Framework patches to address those issues, so your Apps end-users can upgrade their desktops to Firefox 3 as soon as you apply these new ATG interoperability patches.
Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i Prerequisites
- E-Business Suite 11.5.10.2 or higher
- Oracle Developer6i patchset 18 (6.0.8.27.x) or later (Metalink Note 125767.1)
- Oracle Applications Technology 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 6 (RUP 6) (patch 5903765) or later
- Applications Framework Patch 7651759
- Desktop client running Microsoft Windows Vista; or,
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or 3
If using next-generation JRE plug-in technology (JRE 1.6.0_10 and later) we strongly recommend that you apply patch 7567782 which removes the use of the jpi-parameter and switches Firefox to a non-static versioning model.
Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 Prerequisites
- E-Business Suite Release 12.0.0 or higher
- Oracle Applications Technology R12.ATG_PF.A.delta.6 (patch 7237006) or later
- Applications Framework Patch 7602616
- Desktop client running Microsoft Windows Vista; or,
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or 3
If using next-generation JRE plug-in technology (JRE 1.6.0_10 and later) it is also strongly recommended to apply patch 7567840 which removes the use of the jpi-parameter and switches Firefox to a non-static versioning model.

Hi, Vikram,
The question really revolves around whether Fusion Middleware (and Oracle Forms) will be officially supported with Google Chrome. I haven't heard anything along those lines yet, but then, Chrome is still in beta.
If your organization (which I won't name here for privacy reasons) is seriously considering rolling out Chrome instead of Internet Explorer or Firefox, please drop me a private line with more details. In particular, I'd be interested in hearing more about the target operating system (Windows, Linux), number of desktops planned for this rollout, target Chrome release, and timing.
Regards,
Steven

I am trying to install Oracle Applications release 12 on Ubuntu. Can someone tell me what are the pre-requisites? Also can I install it on Windows Vista Home Edition? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Chandan,
I'm afraid that neither Ubuntu nor Windows Vista are certified for the server-based parts of the E-Business Suite. I'd recommend setting up a server with Oracle Enterprise Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux for your testbed.

Steven

Steven,
Any guidance for setting up Ubuntu 9.04 for a client to use eBusiness Suite Apps? Jinitiator works for Windows, but can we use Ubuntu and the JRE?

Hi, Brian,
The following article indicates that we don't currently support Linux desktop clients with the E-Business Suite:
Linux Clients for the E-Business Suite - http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2007/07/linux_clients_for_the_ebusines.html
This article is still true: we have no plans to introduce support for Linux desktops right now. If your organization has plans to roll out Linux desktops widely, feel free to drop me an email with the details listed in the above article.
Regards,
Steven

Hello
given that IE8 certification is still a "long way" away from other posts on these blogs, and that FF3 is certified, what about FF 3.5 ? any indication of a date ?
looking for potential solution for planned Windows 7 deployment to several thousand machines currently running XP, other than getting the Europe version with no IE8 browser in it ;-)

Hello, Kieran,
We're working on our Firefox 3.5 certification right now. The beta and release candidate versions of FF 3.5 were fine, but the final version of FF 3.5 is randomly crashing in our QA environments for some reason. We're trying to track that down.
Watch this blog for updates coming soon.

Steven

Hi,
I am a consultant and work on many different versions of Oracle. I have tried many different versions from 11i using jinitiator to 11i using JRE and R12 using JRE. In all cases, Firefox says it requires additional plugins to launch the forms, but doesn't find anything to install.
I have launched all forms from Internet Explorer, so I already have oaj2se installed.
Do you have any advice?
Thanks,
Laura

Hello Laura,
IE and FF have different ways of deciding what version of the plug-in to use, which is a combination of the plug-in version"requested" by eBiz compared to one or many versions of plug-in available on the client and whether you are using next-generation with Native JRE. This is discussed more in Note 285218.1 "Recomended Browsers for Oracle E-Business Suite 11i" and Note 290807.1 "Deploying Sun JRE (Native Plug-in) for Windows Clients in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i" (and the R12 equivilents Note 389422.1 and Note 393931.1)
In summary, you may find patch 7567782 useful for both Rel 11i and Rel 12
Hope this helps, but feel free to log a Service Request with Support if further help is needed
regards
Mike Shaw
