Oracle’s own use of the E-Business Suite has always been an excellent case study. Our internal EBS environment has grown and evolved over the years. We were running EBS 11i in 2006 with a 6 Terabyte database, after consolidating over 70 EBS instances into a Global Single Instance.  It grew to a 14 Terabyte EBS 12 database by 2008.

Larry Klein, Vice President of Oracle’s Enterprise IT group, gave a snapshot of the latest statistics and architecture in a fascinating session at OpenWorld 2014:

Our EBS 12.1.3 database has grown to over 37 TB with over 91 billion rows of data:

We’re running our E-Business Suite database tier on an Exadata Oracle SuperCluster M6-32, the application tier on an Exalogic Elastic Cloud x3-2, ZFS for shared file system storage, and we’re using Exadata X4-2 Storage Cells for storage.
