I’m deep in Northern India on vacation right now. Despite the sensory overload, I’m having a marvelous time. Getting net access here is an adventure, to put it mildly. In the midst of all this, I realized that I had this article all queued up — thanks to the talents of one of my colleagues in the Fusion Middleware team.
As you start to plan your schedules for the Collaborate conference coming up in Denver in April. This promises to be a huge combined event for all Oracle Applications customers. Registration is now open and hotels are going fast, as usual. If you’re planning to go but haven’t signed up yet, I’d advise doing so
soon.
Something New: Free Hands-On SOA Workshops
Here’s one more good reason to attend Collaborate this year: For the first time, Oracle is offering free “Service Enable E-Business Suite” hands-on workshops for registered conference attendees. Seats are limited, so be sure to reserve a space in one of the three workshop times if you’re interested. You can find detailed information on the OAUG website.
Getting Past The Hype
Why is this important? Numerous presentations at Oracle Open World, Collaborate etc. have been talking about Service Oriented Architectures (SOA ) and Oracle E-Business Suite. Unfortunately, too often, those were limited to Powerpoint slides filled with marketing-speak. The hands-on workshops will provide a deeper level of technical detail — end-to-end across E-Business Suite and Oracle BPEL Process Manager. Think of it as actually experiencing yourself what Jim Van Heel
was writing about in his blog post “Service Enable 11i-Get a Jump on Fusion“. If you also run Siebel, PeopleSoft or JDE in your company, you can sign up for those
workshops, too.

Getting Some Face Time
Collaborate is also an excellent chance for us to meet, either for a quick update or for an in-depth discussion about your deployments and requirements. I tend to book up quickly so if you’d like to arrange a meeting with me, drop me a line as soon as possible.
I look forward to seeing you there.
