Extended Support Fee Waived for Oracle Database 12.1 and 11.2 for Oracle E-Business Suite

Elke Phelps
Product Management Director

Oracle's Lifetime Support policy has three phases:  Premier Support, Extended Support, and Sustaining Support.  For details about coverage during each phase, see:

You can purchase a support plan for your licensed products to obtain Premier Support.  There is an additional fee for Extended Support.

Due to the certification timing of Oracle E-Business Suite with Oracle Database versions beyond 12.1, Oracle has waived Extended Support fees for Oracle Database 12.1 and 11.2 for Oracle Database licenses used for Oracle E-Business Suite through December 2020.

Being an ERP customer, does that mean we will be able to download 12.1 quarterly patches until December 2020 ?

    Amith,

Thanks for the inquiry. It is not clear which quartlery patches you are referring to in your post (CPU, PSU, other); however, you may review a side-by-side comparision of what is provided with with Premier Support vs Extended Support vs Sustaining Support in in the table labled "Benefits of Lifetime Support Software" on Oracle's Lifetime Support policy page avaialble here:
    https://www.oracle.com/support/lifetime-support/

You will noticied that the main difference between Premier vs Extended Support is with the certification of new third party products.

Additional information is also avaiable on page 3, "Extended Support" in the Oracle Technical Lifetime Support policy document additional details regarding deliverables provided with this level of support. Here is a direct link to the document:

    Hey Elke,

thanks for the info. Short question though:
I was aware of the fact, that the sustain support for the DB Version 11.2 starts on Dec 2020, as per:

    http://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/lifetime-support-technology-069183.pdf

Your explanation seems to imply, that if you guys, hadnt done the extension you mentioned we could have lost support for the EBS ?

Or asked differently, how do the certified DB-Versions sustained support beginning relates to the sustained support beginning of the EBS itself ? I was under the, propably wrong, impression that, when the DB goes into sustained support it's certification for the EBS will be revoked...

Thanks for any clarification and help.

Sebastian - You're welcome. Thanks for the follow-up question.

Oracle E-Business Suite support timelines do not override Oracle Database release support timelines. Database support timelines are defined by the support policy for the database. Oracle E-Business Suite customers should review and understand the lifetime support policy for the Oracle E-Business Suite release and the lifetime support policy for the database release. In addition to this, you should review the lifetime support policies for Oracle products for all optional integrations you have deployed. A regular review of Oracle lifetime support policies for the products you use is recommended.

Once Oracle E-Business Suite is certified with a database release, it is not "uncertified". To determine the database support that is available and what is provided for that level of support is defined by the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy and the database support policy.

The recent announcement in this blog post is that the extended support fees are waived for Oracle E-Business Suite 11gR2 and 12cR1 databases through December 2020. The support fee waiver is the only change that was made.

As per my previous post, you may review a side-by-side comparison of what is provided with with Premier Support vs Extended Support vs Sustaining Support in in the table labeled "Benefits of Lifetime Support Software" on Oracle's Lifetime Support policy page available here:
    https://www.oracle.com/support/lifetime-support/

    Hello Elke,

Based on the announcement on April 10 , as an Oracle e-business Suite customer, I should be able to download the latest security patches for database version 11.2 . Is that correct ?

I understand that this change is only applicable for e-business suite database environments.

    Regards,

    Amit

    Amit -

As per my previous update to comments on this blog article - you may review a side-by-side comparison of what is provided with with Premier Support vs Extended Support vs Sustaining Support in in the table labeled "Benefits of Lifetime Support Software" on Oracle's Lifetime Support policy page available here:

    https://www.oracle.com/support/lifetime-support/

The main difference between Premier vs Extended Support is with the certification of new third party products. Security alerts and updates are included. Extended Support also typically has an associated fee. The recent announcement in this blog post is that the extended support fees are waived for Oracle E-Business Suite 11gR2 and 12cR1 databases through December 2020.

    Hi Elke,

thanks for the details. I completely understand it . Security patches are part of extended support. And as an ERP customer, I should be able to download the database 11.2.0.4 security patches. But it does not let me . We raised a SR referring the same blog but that has not helped.

Amit - You need to follow the steps documented in the referenced MOS note:
    https://support.oracle.com/rs?type=doc&id=2522948.1

    Here's what is stated:
The Lifetime Support section of the Oracle Software Technical Support Policies documents the Extended Support fee waiver. To contact Oracle and determine your eligibility for either the Extended Support fee waiver or credit for previously paid Extended Support fees, you can either access your on-premises Oracle Premier Support Renewal information via My Support Renewals using your Oracle Single Sign-On and log a service request or, alternatively, you can contact Oracle Support Renewals using the Oracle Global Contacts page.

Please email me directly if you continue to experience issues after you follow the steps.

    Regards,
    Elke

Oracle Corp needs to provide the same ES Fee Waiver PRONTO for non-EBS licenses for 11.2 and 12.1 as for EBS licenses!!!
  • Elke Phelps (Oracle Development) Friday, May 24, 2019
    Ernest,

Oracle E-Business Suite Product Management and Development cannot assist you with your support request for non-EBS databases.

Please speak with your Oracle Account team and log an SR with Oracle Support.

    Elke
