Yes, it's true: the title is not a typo. We have an Oracle VM (OVM) template that works against any E-Business Suite Release 12 version.  It works against your current E-Business Suite Release 12 installs, whether physical or virtual. Instructions for downloading these new templates are here:

We listened to you: you wanted a small OVM template, and this one is small at around ~600MB. How does this work? On first boot, OracleVM machines based on this template will prompt for an exported Linux EBS shared file system location. They will mount it and create an Apps middle tier node which you can use to scale up your existing EBS instance or to start a new instance. If you have development or testbed environments where you can re-use the database, this template is an easy way to create new Linux middle tiers. Your Feedback is Welcome We're extremely interested in hearing about your use cases and your experiences with our new templates and virtualization kit.  Tell us what you think via our new OVM Templates discussion forum. Hi Steven/lvo,

I have been reading about Oracle VM form last one week.

i do not understand how this can help a DBA?

I just see that it is killing Apps DBA jobs and creating Jobs for Oracle VM Admin jobs.

Please shed some light on this.

I appreciate your sharing your thoughts, but I'm not sure that I share your concerns.

The Oracle VM option is just another tool for reducing the risk and complexity of the initial installation. But installations are just the tip of the iceberg, as all experienced Apps DBAs know. Running EBS in an Oracle VM environment doesn't mean that the EBS configures, deploys, customizes, personalizes, patches, maintains, tunes, and upgrades itself. Our Oracle VM templates are just a faster version of RapidInstall on a target server operating system. In other words, this configuration is conceptually the same as running RapidInstall EBS on, say, Solaris.

Bottom line: Oracle VM is just another tool. It's your choice to use whatever tools you wish. We offer lots of tools to make your life easier, including AutoConfig, RapidClone, Oracle Application Manager, iSetup, Application Management Pack, Application Change Management Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite, and many others. Some DBAs consider themselves so hardcore that they choose not to use those tools; other DBAs use them to free up their time for more important EBS sysadmin responsibilities.

It's your choice, and there will always be a need for EBS DBA and sysadmin expertise.

i assume this works for ocfs2 as well as NFS?

im a little worried when yuo say 'exported'

    can you confirm ?

we dont use nfs here but this seems very useful if it can use ocfs2 shared appletop

    Hi Martin,

Any file system should work with it's own caveats.

For example, OCFS2 works, but you have to use a couple of -options...

Can we leverage any of the existing Oracle EBS VM x86_64 Templates as part of the 11i to R12 upgrade? thus helping to reduce downtime footprint.
