JRE 1.7.0_351 Certified with EBS Release 12.2

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 will go to Sustaining Support after July 2022; therefore, announcements such as this regarding JRE 1.7 updates will end some time this year. If you are still using Java Plug-In with JRE 1.7, Oracle strongly recommends that you migrate to Java Web Start now using the latest JRE 8 update.

While you are in the process of migrating to Java Web Start, Oracle strongly recommends that you update to the latest JRE Update, 1.7.0_351 (7u351), which is now certified with EBS 12.2.

Note the following:

Since JRE 1.7.0_161, in order to use JRE 7 you must use Java Plug-in from JRE 8, as explained in a separate question below.
Java Plug-in for JRE 8 has been in Sustaining Support since March 2019.
EBS Support’s ability to help customers who continue to use Java Plug-in is on a best-efforts basis only, since September 2020!

This article answers some questions you may have on the subject of JRE 7 with EBS.

How do I obtain this JRE 7 update?

This update is only available from My Oracle Support, as Patch34170412. For more information refer to Supported Java SE Downloads on MOS (MOS 1439822.1)

Do I need to apply this JRE 7 update?

You should only apply this update if you have a client tier dependency on JRE 7. In such cases, you must use Java Deployment Technology from JRE 8 to launch JRE 7. This is required because JRE updates as of JRE 1.7.0_161 do not include Java Deployment Technology.

To stay current with critical fixes provided by Java Development, you should uptake both the latest JRE 7 update and the latest JRE 8 update.

How do I get support for installing this latest Java CPU?

If you are using the Java Plug-in with this JRE 7 release and require assistance applying this Java CPU, you can log a service request with Java Support.

She joined Oracle in 2011 after having been an Oracle customer and Oracle Technologist (Oracle Database Administrator, Oracle Applications DBA, Technical Architect and Technical Manager of an Oracle Applications DBA Team) since 1993. As part of the Oracle E-Business Suite Applications Technology Product Management Team, her scope of responsibility includes security, database certifications and advanced architectures for on-premises and Oracle Cloud deployments. She is a frequent contributor and editor of the Oracle E-Business Suite Technology Blog. Elke is the lead author of the Oracle Applications DBA Field Guide (Apress 2006) and Oracle R12 Applications DBA Field Guide (Coqui Tech and Press 2010). Elke is also the founder of the Oracle Applications User Group (OAUG) E-Business Suite Applications Technology Special Interest Group (SIG) and served as President of the SIG from February 2005 - August 2011. Elke has been a speaker at the Oracle OpenWorld and Collaborate conferences since 2004. Prior to joining Oracle, Elke was designated an Oracle ACE (2007) and Oracle ACE Director (2009). She received the OAUG Oracle Ambassador of the Year award in 2015. Elke has a Computer Science Degree and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma. In her spare time, Elke enjoys traveling especially to Europe, Puerto Rico and the amazing US National Parks. Elke also enjoys hiking, antiquing, gardening and cooking.

Tahir Ahmad

Senior Director

Tahir Ahmad is a Senior Director in Oracle E-Business Suite Applications Technology Integration team. He joined Oracle in 1994. Prior to joining E-Business Suite Application Technology Integration team in 2000, he worked as a Senior Development Manager in Oracle Order Management. Tahir is focused on how E-Business Suite uses Java, 3rd party software and Fusion Middleware products -- including Identity Management, Weblogic Server, Mobile Application Framework, SOA, Business Intelligence and Data Integration. His daily work also revolves around a variety of architecture issues related to cloud, on-premise, hybrid and mobile deployments of E-Business Suite and related systems and services. Tahir holds a Master of Computer Science degree from Stanford University, and a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. In addition to English, he is also fluent in Turkish and Urdu. Tahir supports Coalition on Homelessness San Francisco, Agape Villages Foster Family Agency and American Heart Association. In his spare time, you are likely to find him at a local hiking and biking trail, golf course, pool hall or entertaining kids of all ages with a card magic trick or two.
