Hi Steven,

Good news, I have one doubt, we have on 11.5.10.2 single node (HP-UX PARISC).we want to migrate it to HP-UX itanium( Both Application and Database). Is it possible Or only Application tier is possible? Because,as far as i know, HP is going to stop the RISC Based processor in future.

Hi, Chari,For the E-Business Suite Release 11i:  Your database tier may be migrated to HP-UX Itanium (11.23 and 11.31).  Your application tier is only certified on HP-UX PA-RISC, so it must remain on that platform.HP-UX Itanium (11.23 and 11.31) is fully supported for both the application tier and database tiers with E-Business Suite Release 12.  Regards,Steven

One of our Customer is requesting for Oracle 11i E-Business Suite Linux migration Best Practices and Customer success stories.
I have checked the Note#567703.1and Note#238276.1 for this, but these Notes give me the actual steps for performing the migration.

I appreciate If you share any information on these topics.

Can a Platform migration related to Apps can be done in advance and the database part later ?

For ex :
Consider the following architecture
Linux - Web,Forms
HP - Reports,Concurrent and Database.

Considering HP to AIX
================

Platform Hostname
Linux Test1
HP Test2
AIX Test3

Migrate Test2 to Test3 , then reconfigure Test1 to point to Test3.

Now in next cycle , keeping Apps part on Test 3 untouched and cloning on database ( to reduce downtime ).

Is it possible to do ?
I see yes logically .

Wanted your thoughts on that...

From what I surmise you are considering the following:
Step 1: Migrating the Reports and Concurrent Manager from HP to AIX (note that the Web/Forms are still on Linux, and the Database remains on HP)
Step 2: Bring the system operational.
Step 3: At a later time, migrate the database from HP to AIX

This is fine- I'd say it really depends on the downtime window. You need to do this on test before production, to insure that the procedure is smooth for you -- and the first stage should not really take that long. So, it may be more convenient to take the production system down just once, over a weekend, versus twice. This is very case specific.

Can you tell me how to evaluate and build a hybrid platform e-Business suite application servers? It means that our web, form, and cncurrent services on two IBM AIX servers. But we want to build another web, form, and concurrent server on X86 Linux-64 server. Thanks in advance!

With Rel 11i, Oracle have always recomended against heterogeneous installations, at least for the same type of node (Web, Forms or ConcMgr) as it increases Apps DBA burden due to shared Appl_top cannot be used and you need to do platform specific steps multiple times, introduces potential problems with patch availability being out of sync and increases complexity of problem solving

So far as I known, this stance has not changed with Release 12.

I am not aware of any documentation that explicitly discusses installing in heterogeneous environment, but there would be no specific extra steps, other than those you would need to do for each platform you are using

We are on Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 running on HP-UX PA-RISC(11.11) running on 2 nodes both HP-UX. We've recently acquired access to the mainframe IBM, where zlinux is installed. In line with this, how do we migrate the existing OA 11.5.10.2 DB and Apps to AIX on the Apps node and zlinux for the DB node?

I realize that this falls under the split-configuration type of OApps installation.
The change in tier platforms is only available in release 12, since we cannot upgrade to release 12 at the moment, what are the best steps to take in order to achieve our goal of migrating our homogenous HP-UX Oracle APps to a split configuration all IBM environment?

I'm afraid that I don't have sufficient experience with these kinds of migrations to provide any useful insight here. I've asked our Applications Platforms Group whether they have any suggestions. They might be able to post a reply here, but if not, your best bet might be to ask your Oracle Account Manager to schedule a session with an Oracle Consulting practice director to discuss your migration requirements.

Our Apps Platforms Group replied with this:

Only the 10gR2 database is supported as a split configuration for zLinux.

The applicable Metalink note for the migrating the apps tier is 238276.1, Migrating to Linux with Oracle Applications Release 11i. This note applies to all UNIX platforms, not just Linux.

For migrating the database tier via export/import, the applicable note depends on the database version:

Hi Steven,

Appreciate the quick revert, i have gathered as much info as i can, these doc ids are also the ones i found searching thru Metalink. I guess there's no way to go around the export/import for migrating the DB datafiles to zlinux for the database node. It will take a lot of planning and testing.
