Editor Mar 2, 2007 Update: Added latest browsers to this summary, although readers are always well-served to check Certify (on Metalink) and Note 285218.1 for the latest versions certified.
Editor Nov 27, 2006 Update: Added latest Safari certification information.
I find it encouraging that the browser wars aren't over yet. This is partly due to my inherent fondness for the underdog. I also strongly believe that the lessons that biologists have learned about biodiversity and monocultures' susceptibility to disease apply to software ecosystems, too.

In that spirit, it's worth pointing out that the following browsers are supported with the E-Business Suite Release 11 for Windows XP and Windows 2000 desktop clients:
- Firefox 1.0.4 and later
- Firefox 1.5 and later
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 for WinXP clients only
- Mozilla 1.7.5 and later
- Netscape 7.2
- Safari 2.0.4 and later
- Safari 1.3.2 and later
- Note: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x has been desupported by Microsoft

Hi, Lamine,"Link-out"? Unfortunately, due to Oracle Support licencing terms, I can't reproduce Metalink content here. Metalink content is available only to registered users with valid Support licences for Oracle products. I can summarize or cross-reference that content here, however, so I try to do that whenever it's practical to do so. However, most of the Metalink Notes I reference are pretty long, so that's not always feasible. You might wish to contact your IT department that manages your E-Business Suite environment and ask them to pull this Note for you.Alternately, judging from the domain from which your post originated, if you're with a software alliance partner, drop me a private email and I'll connect you with someone in our Technical Alliance Management group who may be able to assist further.Regards,Steven

Not sure if this the correct place to put these comments/questions but they are all desktop client/browser related.
I seem to remember a big announcement some 18 months or so ago about certifying Linux as a desktop client for E-Business Suite. Is that still due to happen?
With Firefox 1.0.x and Mozilla 1.7.x (and Netscape 7.2 which was based on Mozilla 1.7.2) now "desupported" i.e. not getting any more security updates does that mean they will be soon dropped as being certified?
Are SeaMonkey 1.0.x (based on same rendering engine as Firefox 1.5.x) and SeaMonkey 1.1.x (based on same rendering engine as Firefox 2.0.x) being looked as replacement products for Mozilla/Netscape to be certified against E-Business Suite?

Hi, Ian,1. Linux desktop clients aren't supported with the E-Business Suite yet, and we didn't start our Early Adopter Program for Linux desktops as planned (due to the known focus control issue). At this point, I suspect we'll postpone that Early Adopter Program until the focus control issue is resolved.2. I'll have to research this one a bit more; stay tuned.3. SeaMonkey is not being evaluated as a target certification for the E-Business Suite right now.Regards,Steven

As an update to point 2. Mozilla announced back in November 2006 that "Firefox 1.5.0.x will be maintained with security and stability updates until April 24, 2007"

Yes, that's very important. One of our senior ATG architects recently made an observation along the following lines: if one is a good net citizen, given the steady stream of reports about browser security vulnerabilities, most organizations should set their browser preferences to the equivalent of "update automatically."
