The virtual appliance delivers the full software stack, including the Oracle Linux 6.9 (64-bit) operating system, Oracle E-Business Suite, and additional required technology components. The embedded technology components are listed below:

How can you access the internet on this pre configured VM? I can access the apps login page just fine, but how can I load up a web browser to download patches etc?
  • Terri Noyes Wednesday, June 28, 2017
    Rocco-
You can install firefox from public-yum.oracle.com, with the command:
    yum install firefox.x86_64

Have you set up an X-Server to direct your display to?

    Terri,
Thanks for the reply. I had tried this and was getting a GDK_BACKEND error but I found out what was configured incorrectly. It had to do with the x-server on the Local machine. All is working as expected now. Thanks again.

    Hi Terri,

Thank you for your help on installing vision demo instance. I am able to import and change my root, oracle and applmgr credentials.

Now I am at Section 3.5 of the Metalink Note 2254565.1. Which states following.

    1. service ebsdb start.

This is the step I am stuck. It gives me following.

    [root@coexsys ~]# service ebsdb start
/u01/install/APPS/scripts/startdb.sh: line 55 /u01/install/APPS/12.1.0/appsutil/scripts/EBSDB_coexsys/addlnctl.sh: No such file or directory
/u01/install/APPS/scripts/startdb.sh: line 55 /u01/install/APPS/12.1.0/appsutil/scripts/EBSDB_coexsys/addlbctl.sh: No such file or directory

Please advise as to what I am missing.

    Orawolf-

It appears that you set the hostname of the VM as "coexsys". I believe by default we set it to apps.example.com . If you changed it, you need to make sure the clone scripts are run, or revert the hostname back to apps.example.com.

    Terri

    Hi Terri,

Thank you much for the feedback. How do I revert to apps.example.com?

Also, once I revert, and start all services, should I use my windows desktop browser to launch EBS session? Or I have to launch browser session on the VM itself?

    Thank you
    Orawolf.

    Change the /etc/hosts file:

    10.196.187.110 apps.example.com apps
    /etc/sysconfig/network
    NETWORKING=yes
    HOSTNAME=apps.example.com

    Then reboot the vm.

Yes, you can use the Windows desktop browser to launch EBS. Make sure that the hosts file on Windows has this entry:

    10.196.187.110 apps.example.com apps

    Then you can use:

    http://apps.example.com:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin

    Hi Terri,

With your help, I am finally able to start EBSDB and Application tiers successfully, connect to SQLPlus from server, change all necessary passwords, run the hosts scripts and update hosts file with following line.

    10.210.92.208 apps.example.com apps

I am also able to launch the robots.txt file successfully.

After following all instructions and executed successfully, I also restarted the VM.

However, despite of above, I am still not able to launch the login page from my windows laptop using URL below.

    http://apps.example.com:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin

The page on browser simply says following. What am I missing?

    Can’t reach this page

•Make sure the web address http://apps.example.com:8000 is correct
•Search for this site on Bing
    •Refresh the page

    More information

There was a temporary DNS error. Try refreshing the page.

    Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND

    Thank you

    Orawolf-
Did you follow the instructions in "Section 5: Accessing the Oracle E-Business Suite Home Page"? Can you ping apps.example.com?

    -Terri
  • Orawolf Tuesday, September 5, 2017
    Hi Terri,

I am not able to ping apps.example.com either. Yes, I followed both options on Section 5.

Do I need to install JRE or change my browser settings? I am using IE 11.

    Thank you

If you can ping the ip address but not the hostname then revisit the windows hosts file.

I suggest to open a service request if you're still having trouble. That way you can provide more information, and upload files, and one of our experienced analysts will be able to assist directly.

    Hi All

I successfully installed the 12.2.6 appliance. Services start great. Access the homepage from the host machine (and other machines on my home network). But I'm having major problems opening Java Forms. Tried several tips with IE11, Chrome and several versions of Firefox (I'm on Windows 10).

If you have been able to open Java Forms, do you have nay tips for me.

    Thanks
    Tom

    Tom,
Here is the process you should follow to install/ open forms in R12.2.6 VirtualBox instance.
#01: Download and install Oracle JDK8 (1.8_151 etc.) - 64 bit using .rpm preferable
    #02: Now go to /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins
You will not find libnpjp2.so in this directory
    #03: Give the following command
    ln -s /usr/java/latest/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so .
(Remember that java is installed in /usr/java directory. If you have installed in a custom directory then kindly change the initial directory path accordingly.
#04: Open Firefox preferences about:Plugins and add exception site
    http://apps.example.com
#05: Open java console (/usr/java/latest/jre/bin/ControlPanel) and add http://apps.example.com in exception list.
#06:Please make sure that you add forcefully http: and not https:
    you are done.
    Please enjoy.
    Have fun.
    Thanks
    Sandip Kumar

    Hi, Tom,

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered an issue with Forms.

We can provide general conceptual guidance here, but I'm afraid that this blog isn't the best place to get technical support for specific issues like the one that you're working through.

Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

    Regards,
    Steven

To be able to see and open Oracle Forms or Java Forms try to down load and install the JRE i586 version 32(discovered that the 64 bit one was not able to be started and did not resolve)

Hi everyone, as an OASC we are running a number of VMs for a number of partners (using Oracle VM 3.4) I tried to "create VM" step from Virtual Appliance. The first create-vm went fine. When I try to create a second VM in the same Server Pool (for a second partner), the VM creation seems to be successful, but the second Vision VM never appears in the list of VMs. Can only one Vision VM be created in the same Server Pool ?
  • Terri Noyes Thursday, November 1, 2018
    Adolph-
    There is no such limitation.

Did you logout, log back in and check again?

We have also seen that sometimes the VM does not show up on the OVM console, but it is actually created. If you go to the backend server, you can type "xm list". That should show all the VM's that are running.

If you need further assistance, please log a service request.

    Regards,
    Terri
