New Whitepaper: E-Business Suite Development Using OAF & ADF

Customers, partners and system integrators often develop extensions to Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) applications. Such extensions have traditionally used the same technology stack (Forms or OA Framework) that the original EBS application was built with.  This ensured that the extensions are fully compatible with the rest of the installed EBS applications.

With the emergence of the next generation Fusion Middleware technology stack, especially the Application Develoment Framework (ADF), an increasingly-common question is whether to use OAF or ADF to develop E-Business Suite Release 12 extensions.

Our E-Business Suite Applications Technology group has released a long-awaited whitepaper addressing this question. This whitepaper discusses the similarities, differences and overlaps between the OAF and ADF stacks.

If you're considering these technology stacks for your Apps R12 extensions, I'd strongly recommend reviewing this whitepaper:

Thanks Steve providing a constant updates about the latest happenings on the EBS Tech Stack. Apparently this article provides the approach to be used for customizing or building an entierly new application integrating with EBS.

Thanks once again.

In light of JDeveloper 11g being approved to production is the whitepaper from February still hold true or there is more integration with the eBusiness suite in 11g (which the paper refers to).
Thanks,

Gaby

Hi, Gaby,

Yes, this whitepaper still holds true even after JDeveloper 11g is certified with the E-Business Suite.

We've got plans for that certification, but as usual, I don't have any timelines that I can discuss here. You're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates, which I'll post as soon as they're available.

Steven,

We upgraded our e-Business suite environment to R12.1.3 and we plan to use ADF 11g for custom extensions.
I reviewed Metalink Note 563047.1. Seems whitepaper in this note is out-of-date and needs to be updated for the latest versions.

I see "A NOTE ON FUSION MIDDLEWARE ADF 11G" section talks about publishing the revised paper once ADF 11g is available in production version, but, I do not find any whitepaper yet.

I am not sure if Oracle had published such paper yet.
Can you please help me get the suitable notes/white-paper so that I can follow the same for developing the custom extensions using ADF with R12.1.3?

Hi Surendra,

Our team still has plans to update that whitepaper to discuss the latest ADF 11g capabilities. Those updates haven't been started yet.

However, we have been working on the integration between Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle ADF 11g. Please see My Oracle Support Documents 974949.1 and 1296491.1 for more information on the current state of the integration. Those documents will be updated as the integration project progresses. You're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates, which we'll post as soon as soon as they're available.

Hi we are integrating EBS R12 with ADF 11g.
we are facing challenges in session management.
how do we handle session management when invoking ADF page from the OAF page?

Hi Karnakar,

We are planning to add session management routines to a future version of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java.

Please see My Oracle Support Documents 974949.1 and 1296491.1 for more information on the current state of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java. Those documents will be updated as the project progresses. You're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates, which we'll post as soon as soon as they're available.

If you aren't familiar with the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java, see the January 2010 blog entry "AppsDataSource and Java Authentication and Authorization Service for Oracle E-Business Suite" (blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/appsdatasource_jaas_ebs) for a quick introduction.
