Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.3 Now Available

We are very pleased to announce that Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.3 is generally available for download now:

EBS 12.2.3 Patch 17020683 download

Instructions for downloading and applying the patch:

What Does EBS 12.2.3 Include?

This Release Update Pack (RUP) for the EBS 12.2 release codeline includes new features as well as statutory and regulatory updates, and error corrections for stability, performance, and security.

This is a consolidated suite-wide patch set. Release 12.2.3 is cumulative and includes new updates as well as updates made available in one-off patches on prior 12.2 releases.

User Experience Modernization

With 12.2.3, the Oracle E-Business Suite incorporates current UI design trends and improves user productivity by including:

  • New look and feel: appears lighter and fresher, with flat rather than dimensional elements, reduced gradients, and white or light colors with splashes of darker color.

  • Rich table interaction: allows an end user to scroll through a table if its width exceeds the browser's width, detach a table and work with it as a separate component with a wider width, and re-size and reorder table columns that an end user can then save as a user personalization.

  • Worklist header icon: displays by default in all HTML-based pages, the worklist header icon is an alternative to including a worklist region in the Oracle E-Business Suite home page. Users can select the icon to view a summarized list of recent notifications, then click to view and respond to notification details.

For a complete list of new features, see:

Upgrading to EBS 12.2.3

Is there a direct upgrade path from EBS 11i to 12.2.3?

Is there a direct upgrade path from EBS 12.0 to 12.2.3?

No.  EBS 12.0 customers must first upgrade to EBS 12.2 before applying 12.2.3.

Is there a direct upgrade path from EBS 12.2 to 12.2.3?

Yes.  EBS 12.2 customers can apply 12.2.3 directly to their environments.  EBS 12.2.3 is an Online Patch -- it may be applied while EBS 12.2 is running.

How can I prepare for EBS 12.2?

Thanks.

In simple terms, if you are currently on 12.1.3, and you have many modules and many customised workflows, will we have to re-do all our customisations, or are many of them untouched by the patching?

Posted by guest on December 18, 2013 at 12:25 AM PST #

Hi Guest,

Please see (Deploying Customizations in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 (Doc ID 1577661.1)), "Section 6.6: Oracle Workflow". The doc should answer your question.

Hi Steven,

As its mentioned, EBS 12.2.3 is an Online Patch -- it may be applied while EBS 12.2 is running. But at one point of time/any point of time we may require downtime?
a) If you can give an idea, how much downtime would be required for this?
b) Anything else to be taken care of?
c) Link to document on 12.2.3 new features?

ARvind

Posted by Arvind on December 18, 2013 at 09:55 PM PST #

Hi, Arvind,

Patches or updates applied to EBS 12.2.x environments are applied while the system is running. There is a very short, predictable downtime when you restart your EBS application tier server. The database server does not need to be restarted.

Hi Steven,

I have applied patch 12.2.3 on a new fresh environment.

Do you have any estimated date that this version 12.2.3 will support Oracle Database 12c?

Thanks in advance.

Happy new year 2014 !!!

Kind regards,

Francisco Mtz.

Hi, Francisco,

Happy New Year.

Our certification of EBS 12.2 + Database 12c is still underway. It's going well but will take a bit longer to complete.

Oracle's Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I'll post updates here as soon as soon as they're available.

Steven

Hello Steven,

We are thinking of upgrading our Apps to 12.2.3. Concern is about the Hardware sizing 12.2.3 Apps. Is there any document available for the same? Any suggestions highly appreciated.

Thx
Alex

Hello Alex,

The principal standard reference source for hardware sizing is "Oracle E-Business Suite Installation Guide: Using Rapid Install" (Part No. E22950), available in the Release 12.2 Documentation Library at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E51111_01/current/html/docset.html

Chapter 1, "Getting Started", includes sections on CPU, Memory, and Disk Space Requirements, and Database and Application Tier Sizing Guidelines.

Robert.

Thanks Kabeer - just got round to watching the video.

Steven - Are any radical EBS UI changes being looked at to make people think it is something other than EBS?

Best regards

Hi Kabeer,

Thanks for sharing your informative video!

Hi Adrian and all,

The new user interface (UI) in Release 12.2.3 is one step on the evolutionary path we are taking to refresh the Oracle E-Business Suite UI over the course of several releases. Now that Release 12.2 is out, you will see a lot of changes coming to the UI for EBS over the next couple of years.

The main changes in the UI for 12.2.3 are:

-- a fresher, cleaner look and feel with new colors, shading, and so on

-- user personalization of tables including reordering and resizing table columns

-- "detachable" tables that allow you to see a maximized table in a popup over the base page so you can see more rows at once

-- horizontal scrolling for very wide tables

For future releases, we will be doing a lot more changes to the EBS UI: making it more touch friendly for tablets, enhancing the global header at the top of the page, and much more.

Stay tuned!

Sara

Hi Steven - is the patch scheduled to be released for linux x86_64 platform?

regards

Posted by AN on February 27, 2014 at 04:51 AM PST #

Hello AN,
You should pick the 'Linux x86' value from the pulldown menu.
As noted in the 12.2 Linux IUN (MOS Note 1330701.1):
"E-Business Suite Release 12 middle tier patches are generally built on Linux x86, and users should pick Linux x86 when choosing platform-specific 12.2 patches to be applied on Linux x86-64 middle tiers. 32bit E-Business Suite Linux x86 patches can be applied on 64-bit Linux x86-64 operating systems."
This is also stated in the information icon (with the 'i' in it) beside the 'Platform or Language' pulldown menu in the web page for downloading the 12.2.3 patch.
thanks,
John

Hi! Steven,

When I try to start the Vision database using /u01/install/VISION/scripts/startvisiondb.sh, I get an error. It is not able to get to addbctl.sh and addlnctl.sh.
This script is looking for the file in /u01/install/VISION/11.2.0/appsutil/scripts/VISION_localhost
where as the script is in
/u01/install/VISION/11.2.0/appsutil/scripts/VISION_ebs

Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Guninder.

Hi, Guninder,

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered an issue with this.

We can provide general conceptual guidance here, but I'm afraid that this blog isn't the best place to get technical support for specific issues like the one that you're working through.

Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

Hi Steven,

I did install R12.2 with startCD 46 but is there any way if I can automate patches from startCD 47 to apply on R12.2.0 base instance?

Regards,
Utpal

Hi, Utpal,

No, I'm afraid that there are no automated options at this point. We're examining ways of automating these types of updates in future releases.

Steven

Is there a similar white paper with benchmark numbers for Oracle EBS 12.2 on Exastack? The current white paper only benchmarks 12.1.3, Deploying Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud and Oracle Exadata Database Machine, and we well know that the move from iAS to Weblogic increases cpu and memory load considerably.

Posted by guest on March 28, 2014 at 01:18 PM PDT #

Hi, Guest,

No, we don't have any EBS 12.2+Exastack benchmarks yet. I'll post updates on this blog if we produce some.

Hi Steven,

Is there any documentation for upgrade from 12.1.3 to 12.2.3 from functional and technical point of view?

Regards,
Sunil

Posted by guest on April 25, 2014 at 03:56 AM PDT #

Hi, Sunil,

I'm a technology stack specialist. I do not have visibility into functional upgrades. I'd recommend logging an SR with the products for which you have upgrade questions.

Steven

I would like to hear from anyone who has upgraded to 12.2.x in a small instance where they are only using GL,AP,FA, HRMS, Tresury and Cash Management.

I have read through the enhancement documents and see no need to upgrade, but the consultant is pushing to upgrade.

Posted by Eric Maldonado on May 02, 2014 at 01:17 PM PDT #

Eric,

What release are you currently on and what arguments is the consultant giving you to upgrade? If you are on 11.5.10.2, then yes, I can see a strong reason to upgrade ASAP. If you are on 12.1.3 already and are not 24x7, then the reasons could be much less compelling.

Hi Steven,

Can we implement SAML 2.0 or 1.1 SSO in E-Business Suits 12.2 without SOA Gateway as we take this POC as E-Buisness 12.2 standalone and that is not going to integrated with any other system.?

SSO is among the E-Business 12.2 instances running in different environments through OHS/External Weblogic Server.

Hi Steven,
I understand that APEX is not certified with 12.2.3. We are working on an upgrade project and are looking to use APEX, but have concerns about when it will be 'certified'. Is there a reason that APEX would not be certified soon? Is there a date?

Thanks
Joel

Posted by guest on August 07, 2014 at 03:43 PM PDT #

Hi, Joel,

We're working on certifying APEX with EBS 12.2.x right now. The current whitepaper for EBS 12.1 is being updated to handle implications arising out of the Online Patching-related architecture change between the two releases.

Oracle's Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I'll post updates here as soon as soon as they're available.

We just upgraded to Oracle EBS 12.2.3 version and we are unable to update the Person form under HRMS Manager. When saving, it reneders a Server Disconnect error. Any tips?
