New Recommended Patch Collection for EBS 12.1.3 Now Available

I am very pleased to announce the availability of E-Business Suite 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1.  This Recommended Patch Collection combines recommended patches for EBS 12.1.3 into a single integrated and regression-tested patchset:

Why is this important?

Getting to EBS 12.1.3 isn't enough.  Additional patches must be applied on top of EBS 12.1.3 before going into production. These include individual patches, product family Release Update Packs (RUP), and product-specific Recommended Patch Collections (RPC).

For example, there are Recommended Patch Collections for Financials products such as General Ledger, Payables, and others.  On the technology side, there are patchsets such as the OA Framework 12.1.3.1 Consolidated Update Patch

Identifying these individual patches, RUPs, Family Packs, and RPCs can be time-consuming.  Complicating matters further, patchsets across multiple product families are generally not tested together.

Included in Recommended Patch Collection 1 (RPC1)

The EBS 12.1.3+ RPC1 patchset includes a comprehensively-tested set of the latest recommended patches and their dependencies for the following EBS product families:

  • Applications Technology Group (ATG)
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Financials (FIN)
  • Human Resource Management System (HRMS)
  • Procurement (PRC)
  • Projects (PJ)
  • Supply Chain Management (SCM)
  • Value Chain Planning (VCP)

Your feedback is welcome

We are very interested in hearing about your experiences with this new Recommended Patch Collection.  You can post a comment here or send me an email directly.

What about 12.1.3 customers? is it available for 12.1.1 or you can apply it over 12.1.3 also?

Posted by guest on March 31, 2014 at 12:43 AM PDT #

Hi Steven,

This post raises a few questions although this sounds as a useful method to keep 12.1.3 up-to-date.
Are there plans to make this a regular RPC, maybe twice a year like FIN RPC's have been?

Are the plans for 12.1.4 or will RPC's replace further 12.1 releases?

TIA,
Anna Maria

Hello, Guest,

If you are on EBS 12.1.1, you must upgrade to 12.1.3 first. This patch must be applied on top of EBS 12.1.3.

Steven

Hi, Anna,

Yes, we hope to release this new collection regularly.

We have no plans to release EBS 12.1.4 at this point.

Steven

From the size of this patch it looks like 12.1.4 without the name, but then again, what's in a name? The readme references AD.B.delta.4 as a prereq, which by naming convention in the past, would have been associated with 12.1.4.

As always, great info passed on here.

So - We were in the process of implementing Sept2013 RPCs for our specific mdules (AP/GL/AR....) . Should we now instead for with this RPC1.

Is
RPC1 = Sept 2013 + Mar 2014.
or is it simply
RPC1 = Sept 2013 GL + Sept 2013 AP + Sep 2013 ...... so on

Hello, Guest,

Click the very first link in the article above. It links to a complete list of what's in RPC1.

Hi Steven,

The R12.1.3+ RPC1 patch (17774755) delivers version 120.1.12010000.2 of file pa_bc_balances.xdf. This file version has a known issue - see MOS note 1609614.1 (pa_bc_balances.xdf Failing in Patch) which states "This happens in every patch containing pa_bc_balances.xdf version 120.1.12010000.2".

I'd suggest that the MOS note for 17774755:12.1.0 (Note 1638535.1) be updated with a pre-req of patch 17887429, as detailed in note 1609614.1.

Steven,

The only issue with this RPC is that it includes patches of several modules that are not used by us. In other words, the patch includes patches for modules that are either not licensed or used by the customers. If there was a way to discard modules or patches related to modules not used by the specific customer, that would be very helpful.

I know this task is easier said than done to achieve. But, this is a feedback for the development team to think about options.

Ketan,

Thanks for your feedback.

Customers who wish to install RPCs for specific products can continue to do so.

This new release vehicle is intended to make it easier for customers to install multiple RPCs at the same time.

Hi Steven,
I have a question concerning the 12.1.3+ RPC. Is it a cumulative patch set or do I need to go back and get the previous RPC's before applying this one? For example, do I need to apply Sept 2013 RPC's before applying 12.1.3+?

TIA

Posted by sheilah on April 22, 2014 at 09:44 AM PDT #

Hi, Sheilah,

Each EBS product team has included different sets of patches, which are generally cumulative. The contents of RPC1 are listed in the Note above.
You should check that if you have specific RPC requirements.

Steven

Hi Steve

We have implemenetd only HRMS from the entire EBS

We are currently on 12.1.3 RUP6 (R12.HR_PF.B.Delta.6). We also applied 14069503:R12.ATG_PF.B.

Do we need to still apply this patchset which you are suggesting?

Thanks
Mike

Posted by Mike on April 23, 2014 at 05:40 AM PDT #

Hi, Mike,

I don't have HRMS expertise. If the HR patchset included in RPC1 is later than the level of code that you're currently on, you should probably apply this patchset.

This patchset also includes important updates from the ATG and TXK technology stack product families. If you want those updates, you should apply this patchset.

Regards,
Steven

Can you clarify if this patch is recommended for existing 12.1.3 customers or only for customers that are upgrading to 12.1.3 and have not yet released the applications for production use (as mentioned in the first sentence). I'm not finding any documents on MOS that clearly state if this should be done or not. Need to know if we need to stick with the product specific RPC's or if we can use this patch to get caught up on our financials modules. Thanks!

Posted by guest on June 03, 2014 at 01:30 PM PDT #

Hello, Guest,

This patch is recommended for all customers at the EBS 12.1.3 level. This includes customers who are upgrading to EBS 12.1.3, customers installing EBS 12.1.3 for the first time (i.e. a fresh install), as well as customers who have been running EBS 12.1.3 for a while.

Steven

We are on R12.1.3 and we need to apply RPC patch. Please tell what all RPC patches to be applied to cover all modules in EBS.
Can we just apply the below patch to be on latest RPC ?

Patch 17774755: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1 [RPC1]

Pre-req:-

Apply R12.AD.B.DELTA.4 (17884289)

Apply R12.ADO.B.DELTA.4 (17886182)

Posted by Abhishek on June 11, 2014 at 05:50 AM PDT #

Hello, Abhishek,

As noted in the article above, applying this single RPC will cover all product families in the E-Business Suite.

Steven

Steven,

The link for "New OA Framework 12.1.3.1 Consolidated Update Patch for Now Available" does not work and returns "404 Not Found!"

It should be "https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/new_consolidated_update_patch_for" in stead of "https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/%20%20%20%20https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/new_consolidated_update_patch_for"

We have EBS HR and Financials installed, but HR RUP6 has already been installed and HR RUP 7 will be installed soon. When the EBS RPC1 patch is installed will the install simply bypass patches that have already been installed?

Posted by guest on July 16, 2014 at 12:34 PM PDT #

Hi, Guest,

Yes, adpatch (the E-Business Suite patching tool) automatically skips patches that have already been applied.

Steven,
We have not implemented HRMS but have in place Financilas, Manufacturing, Procurement, Projects; we are on 12.1.3; Can we still apply RPC1 to cover for Financilas, Manufacturing, Procurement, Projects? What happens to HRMS patches? Will it impact anything?

Thanks
Sury

Posted by guest on July 16, 2014 at 07:46 PM PDT #

Hi, Sury,

It is safe to apply this RPC even if you only use a subset of the products in the E-Business Suite. You will end up with all of the recommended patches for all EBS products -- which is highly desirable, especially if some of those other products are shared behind the scenes by the products that you use.

Steven

Thanks Steven for your answer.

I am really confused as I opened a SR with Oracle asking about the same question. Pls review the below SR and let me know how to proceed further in my case- SR - 3-9137368301

Question:
Can we just apply the below patch to be on latest RPC for all modules ?

Patch 17774755: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1 [RPC1]

Pre-req:-

Apply R12.AD.B.DELTA.4 (17884289)

Apply R12.ADO.B.DELTA.4 (17886182)

Answer:

Hello,

No, you need to follow the note Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1 (RPC1) ( Doc ID 1638535.1 ) and apply all the product-specific pre-install steps and all the Perform product-specific post-install steps

The RPC1 patch cover all EBS modules but according the note some modules need pre-install steps and post-install steps

Kind Regards
Carlos

Hello, Abhishek,

There's no contradiction between Support's answer and mine. Your question was:

>Please tell what all RPC patches to be applied
>to cover all modules in EBS.

RPC1 covers all modules in EBS.

Support has pointed out that you need to apply several prerequisites depending upon the products that you've implemented. That's correct, too. Please follow the documentation for RPC1 for a complete listing of all prerequisite patches that may need to be applied.

If you have any other questions about prerequisites for RPC1, it's probably best to direct them to Support. I don't really want you to have to reconcile between informal blog comments (made with no knowledge of your system) and Support's authoritative responses.

Steven

Steven,

We tried using EBS Info Bundle patch with patch wizard and tried comparing with RPC1 patches....it seems 150+ patches have not made it to RPC. What is the criteria for a patch to be included in the RPC? Why other patches as released are not part of the RPC? It is becoming confusing as the customer want to start using patch wizard but the things are not clear on this front....with so many patches and the time it is going to take to apply them does not make sense to even use patch wizard. We apply the RPC yearly and are current with Q1 2013 patches.

Please clarify.

Thanks,
Sanjay

Hi,
Could you clarify if 12.1.3+RPC1 includes the latest RPCs which were released on 28-Aug-2014 for FA, GL, AP etc .. This is from note 954704.1
Or do we have to apply RPC1 and then all the latest (28-Aug-2014) RPCs for each modules ?
Thanks

Hi, Guest,

I don't think so, but I am not a Financials specialist. I'd recommend logging a formal Service Request against Financials to confirm this.

Steven

Hi, Sanjay,

All patches have a "freeze" date where no new content is added. The "frozen" patch is called the release candidate and goes through our standard tests.

Any patches released after that freeze date will not be included in the frozen patch.

It stands to reason that you should use the Patch Wizard and RPCs together. The RPC provides you with a baseline. Patch Wizard can identify other useful patches that may be applied on top of that baseline.
