Many of you face the challenge of reducing the data footprint (size) of your ever-growing Oracle E-Business Suite database. I am pleased to announce that our EBS performance team along with lead author, Jim Machin, have recently updated My Oracle Support document Reducing the Oracle E-Business Suite Data Footprint (MOS Note 752322.1) to assist you with this task.
Reducing the size of your Oracle E-Business Suite database by defining a purge and archive strategy is key to maintaining existing performance and maintenance metrics for an EBS environment. It is also an important task as you prepare to migrate your on-premises EBS environment to Oracle Cloud or upgrade to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.
This document will guide you through the process of developing an approach to purging and archiving your data. It will also help you easily identify:
- Types of data in an EBS environment
- Tables that contain the most data
- Purge and archive programs that can be executed to delete data
What’s New?
The updated white paper includes comprehensive coverage of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2. For reference, the Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1 and 11.5.10 white paper is still available.
Of course, it may not be enough to purge and archive the data. The space the objects (tables, indexes) once occupied may need to be reclaimed for other objects to use or to be released completely to reduce your overall footprint. To benefit from purging and archiving, a new section detailing various methods for reclaiming space has been added. This section also lists advantages and disadvantages of the space reclaiming methods.
