New User Interface Features in Release 12.2.4

Guest Author
As I wrote several months ago,  we have been working on a major refresh of the Oracle E-Business Suite user interface.  Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.4 makes a big jump in our user interface.  Here are some of the new features you will see after upgrading to Release 12.2.4:
  • New skin
  • Rich table interactions
  • Simplified home page
  • Support for gestures on tablets

This is the first in a series of articles detailing these new user interface features.

The most obvious user interface change for this release is our new skin for both desktops and tablets.  The new skin provides a cleaner look and feel in Oracle Application Framework-based pages, with responsive features that give you more space for controlling the application with your fingers on a tablet while saving space on a desktop.  Here is the new look on a tablet and on a desktop:

We now have a streamlined touch-oriented, icon-based global header (the top navigation bar on the page). Users can choose whether to display icons, text links, or both by setting a user preference. This feature is one of the results of the usability testing we did last year, where we got user feedback for fine tuning the new look and feel.

Setting Your Display Preference

To change the display settings of the icons in the header, simply select Preferences from the Settings menu (gear icon):

Select Preferences from Settings menu

Then you see the Preferences Page:

In the "Visual" region, "Page Header Display Style" field, select the choice you want:

  • Both Links and Icons
  • Icons Only
  • Links Only

Display style list

Apply your changes, and you're done!

Here is how the "Links Only" style looks:

We hope you like the new look!

    Hi Sara.

The new look is really awesome. The current look is ugly and outdated.

    Very nice.

    Regards,

Hi Sara, We are in the process of upgrading from 11.5.10.2 and recently applied the 12.2.4 patchset to our test instance and I have a couple of questions about the new UI.

1.) Is there something specific that must be done in order for the Preferences option to show up under the Settings icon on the Universal Global Header on the Simple Home page?

I was trying to show one of our users how they could set their user preferences to display Icons and Links but the only options available from the Settings Icon is Diagnostics, Manage Proxies, and Access Requests.

2.) Is it supported to change the Self Service Personal Home Page mode at the user level? Some of our users like the Simple Home Page and others do not. I think they will get used to it so we don't plan to change it - but I have been asked whether we can change it at the user level.

So far I really like the UI enhancements. The 12.2.4 patchset also seems to have fixed some issues we had with IE - and now with the Chrome browser being certified we will have other options as well.

    Thanks, Dawna

    Hi Dawna,

I'm delighted you are trying it out already!

1.) Is there something specific that must be done in order for the Preferences option to show up under the Settings icon on the Universal Global Header on the Simple Home page?

No, it should appear without manual steps. If it doesn't, please log a service request with Support and forward the SR number to me.

2.) Is it supported to change the Self Service Personal Home Page mode at the user level?

Yes, the home page type can be changed by the system administrator at the user level with a profile option. Set the profile option APPLICATIONS_HOME_PAGE/Self Service Personal Home Page mode to:

    - "Framework Simplified Home Page" to see the new home page

    - "Framework Only" to revert back to the previous home page

I hope your upgrade goes well and you like the new version!

    Thanks,

    Sara

Excellent news Sara, really It will transform the way Oracle EBS users are working. with the rapid social media engagement in our routine life and EBS was giving us impression of still 'old man' to new joiners.

    thanks

Hi Sara, In addition to the Preferences option not displaying we also found that the worklist icon is not displaying the worklist - it says Loading but nothing displays so we have opened an SR on these issues:

SR 3-9539031681 : 12.2.4 Universal Global Header Settings preferences option not displayed and worklist not displayed

I definitely like the new UI in 12.2.4 and my initial tests with a Samsung Galaxy 3 Tablet and Chrome browser have gone well!

    Thanks again, Dawna

    Hi Sara,

I was going through note 1676222.1 (OAF Profile Options) and found that the profile option "General Preferences Show Flag" was set to No in our environment. I set it to Yes and now the preferences option is showing in the Universal Global Header.

I have updated the SR with this information.

I haven't found a profile option that fixes the Worklist not displaying but maybe there is a setup I've missed somewhere...

    Thanks, Dawna

    Hi Dawna,

Yes, you are correct, the profile option "General Preferences Show Flag" must be set to Yes for the preferences option to show up in the Universal Global Header. One of our OA Framework development managers pointed that out to me today, after I had responded to your comment--sorry for missing that, and thanks for digging further!

Regarding the Worklist issue, please monitor your SR.

In the meantime, I'm delighted that you are finding more things to like about the new version!

    Thanks,

    Sara

PS--and thanks to all of you for your comments on the new UI!
