Three months ago (an eternity in blog years), I noted that Login Server & Portal 3.0.9 will likely be effectively desupported this fall. To recap: this will be an unfortunate side-effect of Sun’s upcoming release of Java 6 (a.k.a. 1.6), which triggers the desupport of Java 1.3. Login Server & Portal 3.0.9 are only certified with Java 1.3, so this trumps Oracle’s own planned desupport of Login Server & Portal 3.0.9 in July 2007.

In that original article, I alluded to a slim chance of extending our support window for these elderly products. Unfortunately, this has turned out to be technically infeasible.
After Sun’s desupport of Java 1.3, E-Business Suite customers reporting problems with Login Server & Portal 3.0.9 will be advised to upgrade to the latest certified Portal 10g release.
Bite The Bullet
As you can see from the Portal Upgrade Path flowchart above, getting from Login Server & Portal 3.0.9 to the latest certified release may not be a walk in the park.
If you’re running these products in production today, I strongly urge you to begin your upgrade planning to Oracle Application Server 10g, Portal 10g, and Single Sign-On 10g immediately.
