A customer identified a generic Java issue (JDK-8185661) with Windows 10 Creators Update: when JRE 32-bit and 64-bit are both installed, this bug prevents Java Web Start applications from being launched using IE 11.

This is a generic bug that affects all Java users.

Does this affect EBS users?

Yes. EBS requires Forms. Forms requires Java on the end-user’s desktop. Therefore, this generic Java bug affects E-Business Suite 12.1 and 12.2 users, also.

This is now documented as a Known Issue in our EBS documentation:

When will this bug be fixed?

This Java bug is expected to be fixed in an upcoming Java update, possibly as soon as Java 8 Update 166.

Oracle’s Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates, but you’re welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I’ll post updates here as soon as soon as they’re available.

Our thanks to Richard for researching this issue and drawing our attention to it.
