One of the things I prize about my job is that customers are constantly asking me questions that prompt me to investigate things I’d otherwise know little about.  Educational opportunities abound.

Correction:  LoadRunner Can’t Invoke WinRunner Scripts

A comment from a puzzled reader prompted me to revisit my Automated Testing for the E-Business Suite article, where I wrote:

“WinRunner is used to create an automatic testing script, which can then be repeated as many times as you’d like using Mercury LoadRunner.”

This turns out to be incorrect.

We do use both tools but they’re not integrated.  We use LoadRunner for Apps benchmarking,  but LoadRunner cannot run WinRunner scripts.

Independent of those WinRunner scripts, Our Performance team uses different LoadRunner scripts for producing their Apps benchmarks.

We’ve implemented some custom WinRunner functions to collect performance statistics when running WinRunner scripts.

Use of QuickTest Professional

In addition, it appears that Mercury is promoting QuickTest Professional over WinRunner for E-Business Suite testing.  I’m told that QuickTest Pro is able to execute WinRunner 8.0 scripts.

Quite a nice looking tool, with some new features like Firefox support

At present, our plans are to continue using WinRunner for both Release 11i and Release 12 automated regression testing.  If things change on this front, I’ll post another update here.
