EBS 11i Application Desktop Integrator (ADI) Certified on 10gR2 Database

Steven Chan
Senior Director

Client Applications Desktop Integrator (ADI) is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i running on the 10gR2 Database.  Customers may continue using the client-installed ADI even after upgrading their E-Business Suite Release 11i
environment to the 10gR2 Database.

This certification applies to all ADI functionality, including:

  • General Ledger Journal Wizard

  • Budget Wizard

  • Report Wizard

  • Analysis Wizard

  • Account Hierarchy Editor

  • Request Center

  • Assets Integrators

Note that this certification applies only to Client ADI with Applications 11i.  Client ADI cannot be used with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12; webADI is available for Release 12 users.

    Hello Steven

    The doc 747386.1 says

    "Applies to:

Applications Desktop Integrator - Version: 7.2.8 to 7.2.11"

but then further down it says

    "Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What additional patches do I need?

A: None. If you are already using Client ADI, just continue doing so. No client-side patching is needed. If you are not yet using Client ADI, download Client ADI from Metalink (patch details are included above). As mentioned above, the installation and use of ADI is no different with 10g then it was with earlier versions of the database"

We are using Client ADI 7.1.35.10.01, so does this mean we need to upgrade to 7.2 or can we continue on 7.1.35.10.01 as the FAQ suggest ie. "None. If you are already using Client ADI, just continue doing so .."

I don't think it says that we need to upgrade to 7.2 anywhere on the doc, but the doc does not include 7.1.x. Any idea whether we need to upgrade to 7.2 or can we carry on as we are ?

    Thanks for your previous replies.

    Regards,

    David Browne

    Hello, David,

I'm afraid that I'm in the dark on this one. I've passed your question on to the team that owns Note 747386.1. I'll post their reply here if they respond.

I suspect that you might get a quicker answer to your question via a formally-logged Service Request on Metalink.

    Good luck with this one.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hello, David,

Our ADI Support team confirms that you can continue to run on Client ADI 7.1.35.10.01 without upgrading.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hi Steven,

I recently upgraded my users to Client ADI 7.2.10 so that it will be compatible with Office 2007 when they eventually get upgraded. Some of my users however are on Office 2007 already and they are experiencing a very slow processing of Reports in spreadsheet format. I ran a test as well to confirm and indeed it is really slow (hovering at about 1 hr) and utilizes 100% of CPU. This happens when the request is complete and you attempt to view output. I believe this is caused by the conversion activities taking place to change from Excel 2003 to Excel 2007. My client is using a duo core processor with 2 GB of RAM. Is there anything you can suggest or know of any solutions to fixing this problem so that the computer is not locked up and other activities can be done.

    Thanks,

    William

  • Steven Chan Tuesday, March 24, 2009

    Hi, William,

That certainly sounds troubling. My ADI expertise is pretty shallow so I don't have any advice, I'm afraid.

Can you log a formal Service Request via Metalink against ADI and send me the SR number? I can forward it to the ADI Development team on your behalf.

    Regards,

    Steven

  • Dominic Monday, September 14, 2009

    Steve,

Any words on whether we will be certifying Desktop ADI with EBS 11i on RDBMS 11g?

    Thanks!

    Dom

  • Steven Chan Tuesday, September 15, 2009

    Hi, Dom,

The Desktop ADI team is working on this right now. I don't have firm schedules for this certification yet, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates, which I'll post as soon as soon as they're available.

    Regards,

    Steven

Thanks so much for the quick response Steven, as always.

Is Client ADI going to be certified for use with Windows 7?

  • Steven Chan Wednesday, November 4, 2009

    Hi, Wade,

I'm afraid not. Our ADI team discovered compatibility issues with Microsoft Vista, so ADI is not certified on that operating system. Windows 7 has the same issues, and ADI will not be certified on that version, either.

The ADI team has stated that all customers should migrate to WebADI, the web-based version of their tool, to get compatibility with these latest operating systems.

    Regards,

    Steven

  • Arun Thursday, October 28, 2010

    Hi Steven,

We are trying too install ADI 7.2 on Windows 7. But it is showing the error like ADICOM30.INS(102):PERMISSION_DENIED. We asked some experienced guys they are telling that the ADI will not work on WIndows 7 but Web ADI will work on IWndows 7.Is it right? I want ot know about the compatabilities, combinations of ADI on Windows Operating Systems.

If it is necessary to install Web ADI.Please give me the details of how to download the Web ADI base version and how to install. Please help me in this.

  • Steven Chan Thursday, October 28, 2010

    Arun,

Client ADI is not certified for Windows 7 or Vista desktops; this is noted in the EBS documentation for those respective releases. Client ADI is only certified for Windows XP desktops.

For pointers to the Windows 7 documentation, see this externally-published article:

Microsoft Windows 7 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite

    http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2009/12/win7_certified_ebs.html

You can run Web ADI with Windows 7 and Vista desktops. Since you've posted your comment to an EBS 11i article, I'm assuming that you're running EBS 11. The Web ADI documentation for that release can be found here:

  • Waqas Friday, December 24, 2010

could please any one tell how can i block users to stop uploading data from ADI they dont want to use AP and AR

and prefer to upload data in the GL

  • Steven Chan Monday, December 27, 2010

    Waqas,

I'm not an ADI specialist, but I'd surmise that it's possible to restrict your end-users' responsibilities to prevent them from uploading data for those two products. If you need detailed instructions on how to do that, your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our ADI specialists engaged.

    Regards,

    Steven

how can the adi analysis wizard help in getting the details of accounts coming from an external system. meaning the transactions coming/imported to GL are not from oracle subledgers (AP,AR,PO, etc)

  • guest Saturday, June 30, 2012

    Hi,

In 11i whether the client ADI supports with microsoft 2010 excel. Recently we have upgraded for our client with 2010 but the client ADI does not work. And we are trying with webadi which has restricted functionality.

    Thanks,

    Jeyarajan

  • Rekha Ayothi Tuesday, July 3, 2012

    Hi Jeyarajan,

Client ADI is not certified with Microsoft Excel 2010. Web ADI (11i and R12) is certified with Microsoft Excel 2010 with following desktop client operating systems:

    - Microsoft Windows (32-bit) XP

    - Microsoft Windows (32-bit) Vista

    - Microsoft Windows (32-bit) 7

    - Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) 7

Client ADI functionalities are available through Web ADI and Report Manager. And, both of these products have evolved through E-Business Suite releases. Now, they provide much richer capabilities. So, you may want to refer the Application Technology's Release Content Document from My Oracle Support Knowledge Document - Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 Release Content Documents (Doc ID 561580.1).

    Thanks,

    Rekha

    Hello, Guest,

I see that your question about the ADI Analysis Wizard is still unanswered. Given that this is a functional question rather than a technology stack-related one, we asked the Financials team to respond to it, but it appears that this may have gone unnoticed.

I would recommend logging a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support against the Financials product to get a reply to your question.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hi Steven,

We've been using Oracle Client ADI version 7.1.35.10.01 32 bit. Are newer versions of the software backward compatible?

    Thanks

  • Steven Chan Tuesday, September 2, 2014

    Hi, Colin,

On first princicples, the answer is yes. All newer code is supposed to be backwards-compatible with the server-based counterparts.

That said, I don't think that there have been updates to the EBS 11i Client ADI code in quite some time. EBS 11i has been in Sustaining Support since Dec. 1, 2013, so no new updates are expected at this point.

    Regards,

    Steven

  • Ken Monday, September 15, 2014

I am a user of Oracle Financials, my Organisation uses Win8 and Office 2010, WebADI 11i 8.4.1.38, Oracle Database 10.2.0.3.0 (64)

We have a big nuisance that whenever the journal is uploaded, the worksheet turns to Locked; and the Excel goes to background after we selected other applications, we cannot bring it back to desktop by ALT+TAB, click the tab on Taskbar, we must minimize all the windows on top so that we could use Excel again.

Please let us have a good solution as these did not happen in ADI, these severely reduce our work efficiency which a new application should do the opposite.

    Thanks

  • Steven Chan Monday, September 15, 2014

    Ken,

This doesn't sound like the behaviour that I'd expect.

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered an issue with this.

We can provide general conceptual guidance here, but I'm afraid that this blog isn't the best place to get technical support for specific issues like the one that you're working through.

Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

Please feel free to forward your Service Request number to me if it gets stuck in the support process for some reason.

    Regards,

    Steven

We encounter an error message when interface the excel file into oracle. The message shown as "select a cell before uploading". May I know how to resolve it. We have tried to start the computer and ADI, however it not works.

    Regards,

    Karen
