[17-Sep-2020:  An update to this blog article is available here: Sep 2020 Updates to the EBS 12.2 Data Masking Template for Database 19c with EM 13c]

We're pleased to announce the certification of the EBS 12.2 Data Masking Template with Oracle Database 19c. The new template includes required updates for Database 19c, performance improvements and general enhancements.

You can use the Oracle Data Masking and Subsetting Pack with Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 13c (EM 13c) to mask sensitive data in cloned (non-production) EBS 12.2 environments with Database 19c.  This announcement includes certification with EM 13cR4.  You may also continue to deploy with prior releases of EM 13c per the documented guidelines.

To use EM 13c to mask data in a cloned EBS 12.2 environment with Database 19c, use the following instructions and template:

What does masking do in an EBS environment?

Due to data dependencies, scrambling E-Business Suite data is a non-trivial task.  The data needs to be scrubbed in such a way that allows the application to continue to function.

Based upon the Oracle E-Business Suite architecture and sensitive columns, application data masking with the certified EBS Data Masking Template does the following:

  • De-identifies the data:  Scrambles identifiers of individuals, also known as personally identifiable information (PII).  Examples include information such as name, account, and address.
  • Masks sensitive data:  Masks data that, if associated with PII, would cause privacy concerns.  Examples include compensation, health and employment information.
  • Maintains data validity:  Provides a functional application.
