We had a flurry of postings, patches, webcasts, and Notes around the US 2007 Daylight Saving Time changes earlier this year.  As many of you noted, sometimes in rather forceful and colorful terms, it took longer to review all of the available information than it took to apply the patches.  We heard you, loud and clear, and are trying to learn from that experience.

New Upcoming DST & Time Zone Changes

The tempest around US 2007 DST changes has settled down by now (thankfully).  However, if you’re in any of the following countries (or do business with them), there are apparently more Daylight Saving or time zone changes coming soon:
  • New Zealand
  • Chatham Islands
  • Venezuela
  • New South Wales (Australia)
And, given the way these things work, it’s likely that the domino effect will continue to other countries around the world.

Information in a Single Place

We’ve just released a single master Release 11i document to make it easier for you.  This Note is intended to consolidate information about the necessary database, Java, and Developer 6i patches that you need to comply with the latest DST and time zone changes across all affected countries for Apps 11i:
This document has new information about lovely New Zealand and the Chatham Islands right now, and will be updated soon to include information about Venezuela and New South Wales.  Also, an equivalent Note will be published for Release 12 shortly; stay tuned for more updates.

As an aside, my management has yet to be convinced of the merit of my arguments that customers in these countries — particularly the ones in tropical locations with lots of beaches — would benefit from a personal on-site visit from me.  Oh, well.  A man can dream, can’t he?
