Apps DBA for OEBS SIG is a bit of a mouthful, but is better than having to write “Applications Database Administrator for Oracle E-Business Suite Special Interest Group”! Basically these are technically-oriented meetings for E-Biz Apps DBAs and are held mainly in the UK and Ireland.

Whilst not as glamorous as the going to Vegas for Collaborate’07 like Steven gets to go to, I do at least get out of the office to present at these meetings.
Yesterday’s conference was at the Heritage Motor Centre, so I was very much looking forward to going. Unfortunately, time flew by far too quickly and I didn’t get to see the cars in the museum this time, but I did get to talk to a fair few of the attendees, especially during the Speed Networking Session. It is great to be able to meet the front line DBAs and talk about issues and ideas informally. Some are working on very exciting projects and some have challenging environments, so getting to hear of your configurations, issues and concerns is one of the real highlights for me. I hope to continue supporting the UKOUG.
The presentations themselves were very interesting, with:
- Richard Dewes talking about setting up the TNS entries with RAC (covering the subtle differences between 9i and 10g)
- John Able discussed new Security features in Rel 12
- Mike Buckland had a session on Business Intelligence (including Oracle Fusion Intelligence for the E-Business Suite)
UK OUG members can download the presentations from this and all previous meetings via the UKOUG web site.
The next meeting is 9th October 2007 in Slough, so if you are based in the UK it would be well worth checking to see if you are able to attend.
