Upgrade to 11gR2 Database instead of patching 10gR2

It’s always helpful to check the latest Lifetime Support Policy documents when considering your upgrade options.  As a guiding principle, you should upgrade to the database release that gives you the longest supported timeline.

Oracle Database 10gR2 is now in Extended Support through July 2013.  In general, if you’re applying database-level updates to your Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i environment, you’ll get a better return on your investment of time if you upgrade directly to the latest 11gR2 database release.  Premier Support for 11gR2 runs through January 2015, and Extended Support runs through January 2018.
