Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure (ExaDB-XS) is now generally available for Oracle AI Database@AWS. ExaDB-XS extends Oracle Exadata capabilities to AWS customers through a highly scalable, multitenant Exascale architecture designed to deliver Exadata performance, reliability, availability, and security for workloads at any scale.
Exadata performance for workloads at any scale
Exadata has always delivered exceptional performance, and ExaDB-XS opens up a flexible new way to experience it. Built on Oracle’s multitenant Exascale architecture, ExaDB-XS lets customers start with a small VM cluster and independently scale compute and storage as their workloads grow, paying only for the ECPUs and storage they actually use.
ExaDB-XS complements Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaDB-D). Dedicated infrastructure continues to provide an important option for demanding workloads, customer isolation, and efficient database consolidation, while ExaDB-XS provides a lower entry point for smaller, but no less critical, workloads.
This gives teams a fast, cost-effective on–ramp to Exadata-class performance, with the freedom to scale precisely as their needs evolve. Oracle manages the underlying physical infrastructure in a shared, multitenant model, while customers retain full control over their database environments.
Agile development
Exascale infrastructure enables rapid, efficient database thin clones with native Exadata performance, helping lower storage costs and improve developer agility. Redirect-on-write snapshots let development and test teams create space-efficient copies of production databases without duplicating full storage for every environment.

Built to simplify operations
In keeping with our approach to every Oracle AI Database@AWS service, ExaDB-XS is designed to give customers more time to focus on their applications and innovation. Oracle manages the underlying physical infrastructure and provides cloud automation for patching and lifecycle operations, while customers retain control over their database environments through familiar interfaces they already know and trust.
ExaDB-XS supports both Oracle Database 19c and Oracle AI Database 26ai, giving customers flexibility to run supported workloads on the database version they already use without requiring an upgrade first. Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), RDMA-based smart storage, and SSH access to VM nodes provide familiar Exadata capabilities for customers operating these database environments.
At launch, customers can provision and manage Exascale Storage Vaults and VM Clusters directly through the AWS Management Console, AWS APIs, AWS CLI, and SDKs, while Oracle Database Homes and databases are provisioned and managed through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) interfaces. Advanced lifecycle management and extended scaling operations are available through OCI, giving customers a path to more granular control as their needs evolve.
ExaDB-XS also integrates natively with the AWS services that teams already rely on:
- AWS Marketplace for private and public offer purchasing
- AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) for customer-managed Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) keys
- Amazon S3 for automated database backups, including immutable backups and configurable retention
- Amazon CloudWatch and Amazon EventBridge for monitoring and automated operational workflows
- AWS Billing and Cost Explorer for usage visibility using existing tagging mechanisms
Customers can also navigate seamlessly between the AWS Management Console and OCI for advanced administration, helping streamline workflows across both environments.
Available across Oracle AI Database@AWS regions
ExaDB-XS is available in all AWS Regions where Oracle AI Database@AWS is available., giving customers broad regional access to Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure alongside their AWS applications.
Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure in Oracle AI Database@AWS extends the performance, reliability, availability, and security benefits of Exadata to workloads at any scale. It provides extremely affordable consumption-based pricing and the elasticity to grow as needed.
