More Enterprise Health Checks on Oracle Solaris 11.4 SRU 33

Chris Beal
Senior Principal Software Engineer

On the 18th of May we released SRU 33 for Oracle Solaris 11.4, for more information on what it contains, have a read of Albert's blog post. In addition to what Albert writes about there are some additional checks added to the the Enterprise Health Check compliance(8) benchmark.

The Enterprise Health Check benchmark can be installed by installing the package ehc-solaris policy. eg.

# pkg install ehc-solaris-policy

It can be run using the compliance(8) tools

# compliance assess -b ehc

The new checks are largely focused on the package infrastructure, but with additional checks for use of packages that are marked as legacy. That is to say something that should not be relied upon as it my be removed in a future SRU.

The full list of new checks is here

  • Enhanced check for legacy packages.
  • Check for software dependent on legacy packages.
  • Check the OS version is current (actually repurposed from another benchmark)
  • Check IPS pkg repositories are on line
  • Check that there are no pkg facets unlocked (This can make updating a system really hard)
  • Check that the system has valid certificates (Which can prevent access to pkg repositories.

As always I hope we can add more in future SRUs. If there are checks you think could be useful, please leave a comment, and we can consider adding them.
