PeopleSoft delivers new functionality, bug fixes, and more every few months in a PeopleSoft Update Image and it is important for customers to download and deploy them quickly. An up-to-date PeopleSoft Update Image is how you can ensure your organization can quickly apply a patch, install the latest features for your application, or apply regulatory updates.
A new PeopleSoft Spotlight video, Optimizing PeopleSoft Update Image Management, shows you how to use the new Self-Managed Update Images in Cloud Manager to automatically deploy new Update Images, and how use PUM Automatic Updates (PAU) to keep the Update Image current.
With Cloud Manager, you can now automate the entire lifecycle of a PeopleSoft Update Image. The Self-Managed Update Images feature will:
1. Download the new image when it is released
2. Deploy the new release into an environment
3. Migrate metadata from the previous Update Image to the new Update Image
4. Optionally, remove the previous release cloud resources
This is all possible because of the tools and API’s we have delivered in recent version of PeopleTools.
If you aren’t using Cloud Manager yet, you can take advantage of the underlying PeopleTools features to simplify the management of PeopleSoft Update Images. The PUM Automated Updates (PAU) is delivered in every Update Image for all customers. PAU will:
1. Keep your PeopleSoft Update Image updated by automatically applying PRPs
2. Download the next Update Image release
3. Migrate metadata and upload targets in the new Update Image
PeopleSoft is adding more value to the metadata stored in each Update Image so it is important to maintain and migrate your PUM metadata as you deploy new images. Tracking which change packages you have created, what environments you have applied patches, and what objects you have loaded into the customization repository will become even more important in future releases.
Every PeopleSoft customer can take advantage of Cloud Manager’s Self-Managed Update Images. Whether or not you run your PeopleSoft applications on OCI, every PeopleSoft customer can use OCI to host their PeopleSoft Update Images. The Lifecycle Management tools, like Change Assistant and PUM Automatic Updates, are designed to support OCI-based Update Image deployments. These tools will run in OCI for building your change packages, and use the same tools with your on-premise environments to apply updates to your PeopleSoft applications.
If you haven’t looked at using PAU, or Cloud Manager’s new Self-Managed Update Images, check out the Optimizing PeopleSoft Update Image Management to learn more and see how these great features can help. We have also blogged about PAU previously here and here.
