There is a new feature in PeopleTools 8.59 called PUM Automated Updates or PAU. The great thing about it is it's a feature available in PUM Images so you can take advantage of it right away. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that PUM images run on PeopleTools, and since they are always on the latest version, they offer features as soon as they are released. That's the case with PAU.
One of our objectives with Lifecycle Management is to automate as many lifecycle tasks as possible. Doing so frees up resources, speeds up the lifecycle process and eliminates pesky user errors. With PeopleTools 8.59, the tasks that can be automated are Downloading PRPs, Applying PRPs, Defining Change Packages, Creating Change Packages and running the Source Side Apply.
The first place to start is keeping your current PUM image up to date. When an application team releases a patch (PRP), it can be automatically downloaded to your site and applied to your PUM image, making those changes ready for you to apply to your environment. You'll have an always current PUM Image!
Let's go through the steps necessary for you to set this up:
First thing is to pick up a current PUM Image that is running PeopleTools 8.59. Since 8.59 was released earlier this year, any HCM, FSCM, or other image posted after August 1st, 2021 should work.
When you first sign-on to the image, you'll see the new PeopleSoft Update Manager homepage. On it are tiles for the Update Manager (the workcenter you are familiar with), Customization Repository, Download Repository, Update Settings and Update Scheduler.
Start with the Update Settings. In the settings you'll have to set some basic settings in order for the automatic updates to work. Configure the MOS Credentials, Image Credentials for this PUM Image, and REST Service Credentials. The subscriptions are already set to get updates for the current image and all that's left is setting the level of notifications.
Once that is done, open the Update Scheduler. This is where you'll define the automation jobs and specify how they will run.
Start with the Define Job button. At the Define Job page, enter a Name, set the Type to Scheduled, set the Recurrence to Weekly (or the interval you would like), and select a start date. Then select the Download PRPs from MOS and Apply PRPs to PUM Source
That's it, you're ready to go. Now you know when Oracle releases a PRP that needs to be applied to your PUM image, it will be downloaded and applied automatically.
