OCI Operations Insights (OPSI) helps gain deeper insights into the infrastructure and database resources, performs data-driven capacity planning and performance management, and enables improvements to applications throughput.
We continue to enhance OPSI periodically and have rolled out quite a few exciting new capabilities in the last couple of months. This blog summarizes the key new capabilities in OCI Operations Insights. For information about previously released features, see the following blogs:
- Build upon key insights with the newest features in OCI Operations Insights (November 2022)
- Create deeper insights with new features in OCI Operations Insights (September-October 2022)
OPSI Data Explorer enhancements
The OPSI data explorer has just become much more powerful. Now, users can conveniently filter resources using the new multi-select resource filter shown below in Figure 1. In addition, users can filter the data based on tags applied to the underlying resources and explore data across compartments using the “Include child compartments” option.

All Oracle-authored out-of-box widgets OPSI provides including the Database, Host, Exadata trend, and top consumer widgets supports the dashboard region filter, which allows the creation of cross-regional dashboards.
Finally, the Exadata IORM and Exadata Cell dashboards can be filtered by additional dimensions, allowing deeper and more convenient exploration. See Figure 2 below to see the additional filters added to the Exadata IORM Dashboard (cell name, database name, PDB name).

New OPSI data objects with Database Explorer and Host Explorer
In addition to the significant enhancements made to the Data Explorer, Operations Insights has created a wealth of new data objects! Users can now explore Database Performance, Host Performance, and Host Top Process data objects within the new “Database Explorer” and “Host Explorer.” The complete list of new data objects is as follows:
- Database Load Daily / Database Load Hourly
- Database Memory Daily / Database Memory Hourly
- Database Storage Daily / Database Storage Hourly
- Database Tablespace Daily / Database Tablespace Hourly
- Host CPU and Memory Daily / Host CPU and Memory Hourly
- Host Processes

Database Capacity Planning configurable UI
The ability to edit (and persist) thresholds within the Database Capacity Planning UI in now available. Users can directly set the “High” and “Low” thresholds for resource insights for CPU, Storage, and Memory within the UI. See Figure 3 and Figure 4 below.

OPSI support for Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaCS) via Enterprise Manager
In addition to the Cloud Native approach for enabling Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaCS) systems via private endpoint released late last year, Operations Insights now has added support for these systems via Enterprise Manager telemetry. This allows customers to have a common data collection strategy across cloud and on-premises (external) resources if desired. Note: A single method of onboarding should be chosen.
SQL Explorer available via Enterprise Manager telemetry
The Operations Insights SQL Explorer is now available for databases monitored via Enterprise Manager starting in EM 13.5 RU13! Upgrade and try it today!
CDB drill-down support from Database Management
Late last year, drill-down support was added from Database Management to Capacity Planning and SQL Warehouse applications within Operations Insights for pluggable databases. This support has been extended to also cover container databases (the CDB name filter will automatically be applied within the aforementioned applications).
