When principal member of technical staff, Hitesh Bansal, began looking for his next career adventure, he was initially drawn to Oracle because of our cloud connections. A year later, he comes to work every day inspired and motivated to continue safeguarding and tackling challenges in that area. What keeps him passionate and engaged? He’s sharing what he loves about creating a brighter future with us.
Big fish in a small pond
Despite Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s size and scale , Hitesh feels that the start-up like environment created at every level of the organization enhances his daily experience. The open-door policy and collaborative communication are elements of life with us that never fail to put a smile on his face.
“The best part is they provide almost the same environment as a start-up situation. You can go to anybody, if you are facing any problem and everybody understands each other’s concerns. Everybody cares about you and the people are really understanding. Space is given to every employee in my team,” says Hitesh.
Just like in his previous role at a start-up, everyone chips in to help and solve problems as soon as they happen. The supportive team mentality is there and is a big factor in why Hitesh chooses to stay with us.
He explains, “Onshore and offshore teams are extremely well coordinated. As an example, if a critical production issue isn’t resolved in a day, the offshore team picks up from where you left off.”
Communication is key
Working at OCI is not just a technical education but also about learning skills that’ll help you advance in your career. You’ll pick up fundamental characteristics – such as collaboration and communication – that will make you more adaptable to any business ventures moving forward, as discovered by Hitesh.
“Communication at different levels is the thing I learned the most. In the past, I’ve presented to director level individuals and have had constructive technical conversations with them, which I think is quite rare in such large organizations,” Hitesh shares.
Aside from open communication, Hitesh has noticed a big emphasis on freedom of expression despite rank and role within the company.
He points out, “you get the freedom to express your views at any level, not just with your peers. I can openly discuss things with my director, and this is something I value.”
Learning curves and a culture like no other
What’s Hitesh’s favourite thing about life at OCI? He says it’s the never-ending opportunities to learn through experimentation and making mistakes at times as well as the unique culture. For the member of technical staff, the activities and attention to detail within company policies make coming to work every morning more worth it.
“It’s the small things that I appreciate. Things like if we want to dine in, it’s on the company, and the Diwali festival gift we got. The whole management appreciates you and rewards you,” he says.
OCI’s culture, and the opportunity to grow through interesting learning curves are reasons why Hitesh encourages people to join OCI. He feels this opportunity has already enhanced him both personally and professionally.
Hitesh reiterates, “The learning curve is actually exponential here. It makes my job a diversified role. I am involved in the entire software lifecycle, not just the development phase. There’s a real prospect for 360-degree development for each employee.”
