When it comes to managing his team, implementation manager Antonio Benitez, has one clear non-negotiableequal opportunity for all. Working his way up the career ladder, the manager for Oracle Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia, makes an active effort to help each employee reach their full potential. He shares why it’s so important to hear every voice in the team and encourage an atmosphere of free expression.

It’s always better when we’re together

It’s a well-known fact that when great minds come together, great outcomes are achievable. For Antonio, this is the fundamental principle he adapts to his management style by opening dialogue on a daily basis.

He says, “Communication is an important aspect, having an equal opportunity to speak and be heard is what makes up strong teams. Allowing them to express their thoughts and ideas, leads in turn, to brilliant ideas.”

Taking a deep interest in the talents and career progression opportunities available for each of his team members, he allows them to broaden their skillsets in order to overall, advance the team as a collective.

“I would like to see my team advance in their careers and take every opportunity to tap into their talents and unleash their potential. So I try to guide them in realizing their passions and using them to their advantage. This, I hope, will prepare them as they grow to be successful in whatever path they choose when it comes to furthering their careers.”

A communicative working culture

In coming to work for Oracle, Antonio was blown away by the learning opportunities he found both in the resources and the people that surrounded him. Whether it be a chat in the pantry or logging on to take a skill-orientated course, the potential for growth is something placed at the forefront of the working culture.

“Oracle promotes equality, I do enjoy all the resources, learning offerings, and programs that lead to a safe working environment for everyone,” he explains.

Mingling with people with greater expertise and a different background is another way in which the implementation manager feels the company excels at promoting equality, “It’s a good place to enlarge your network and get acquainted with highly talented individuals. There’s a vast collection of resources that everyone can use to develop their skills.”

Kill the comfort zone and learn to adapt

In ensuring that there’s a safe space for everyone to use their voice and be heard, Antonio is hoping his leadership will inspire others to break free of their norm. He encourages his team to take risks and try new things whenever they can, leading to a higher rate of creative productivity.

“One of the best pieces of career advice I can remember is not to be afraid to try new things, to get out of your comfort zone. You might not like the outcome of it but the key takeaways will add to your experience and value.”

In hiring new teammates, he is searching for adaptability and a willingness to learn, qualities that will fit with his attitude towards equal opportunity. He wants colleagues that will fearlessly leap towards success for the good of the team and themselves.

“I need a good listener and someone capable of expressing their thoughts and ideas. Someone who is hungry to learn and excited to explore available resources and learning platforms available at Oracle.”

Finally he leaves his most valuable learning from his time in the tech industry, “follow where your heart leads you, if it makes you happy and at peace you made the right choice.”
