On May 7, 2024, Oracle Academy hosted a hybrid Faculty Day for lecturers at Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja. With over 30 participants in attendance, the event was a success. It had in attendance top management members of the Faculty of Computing and Engineering who were eager to know more about how Oracle Academy resources can supplement their teaching and student learning experiences.

Themed ‘Leveraging Oracle Cloud and Oracle APEX for Enhanced Teaching and Learning’, the three-hour-long session gave participants the opportunity to better understand the Oracle Academy program offering and the skills gap it is bridging in the information technology sector.

Danny Gooris, Regional Director, Oracle Academy EMEA, did an introduction to Oracle Academy teaching and learning resources, where he provided participants with a brief description of Oracle APEX, Oracle Cloud, and Oracle Academy database and Java curriculum.  

Afterwards, a training session was facilitated by Dr. Ifeanyi Ugbaga, an Oracle Academy instructor, who showed participants Oracle Academy Education Bytes and a practical session on Oracle Cloud and Oracle APEX through the Oracle Academy Member Hub teaching and learning platform.

It was a fun day of learning and insights for everyone involved as participants left the training better equipped to teach using Oracle Academy technology education resources.

Similarly, in Ghana, on May 10, 2024, Oracle Academy collaborated with the Department of Computer Science, University of Ghana, to host a hybrid Oracle Academy Day for faculty members and students that also focused on leveraging Oracle Cloud and Oracle APEX for enhanced teaching and learning. More than 100 students and lecturers engaged in the event.

The event opened with welcoming remarks by Prof. Ebenezer Owusu, Head, Computer Science Department, University of Ghana. He expressed his delight with Oracle Academy for organizing the event and mentioned he is looking forward to many more opportunities that the program has to offer.

Bekere Amassoma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Sub Saharan Africa, gave the opening remarks on behalf of Oracle Academy and thereafter shared an introduction of Oracle Academy activities and a demo.

Mark Mensah, Oracle Academy faculty member at the University of Ghana, gave an introduction to Oracle Cloud. He conducted a training session on Oracle Cloud with a live hands-on lab and also did a demo on Oracle APEX. After the sessions, participants had the opportunity to ask relevant questions of the speakers and network.
