The Global Peace Leadership Conference (GPLC) Africa 2024, held from 25 – 27 June in Kenya, united delegates from Africa and across the globe to explore and discuss strategies for promoting peace, education, development, and collaboration. The event served as a platform for thought leaders, policymakers, academia, and private and public organizations to engage in meaningful dialogue and share innovative solutions for the continent’s pressing challenges.
One of the conference’s key tracks, opened by the Hon. Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education in Kenya, was transforming education. This track, moderated by the Vice President of Global Peace Foundation, Tony Devine, aligns with the African Union’s 2024 theme, ‘Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century’. The discussions focused on the transformation necessary in the education sector to achieve this vision.
Oracle Academy’s Senior Regional Director, EMEA, Danny Gooris, delivered an impactful speech during the opening plenary, emphasizing the critical need for building more capacities for educators, who are the foundation of this transformative education journey. He elaborated on how enhancing educators’ skills and competencies is essential for developing a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the education system. By investing in professional development and training programs, educators can be better equipped to inspire and guide their students, ultimately leading to a more resilient and adaptive workforce. In attendance was David Bunei, Oracle Country Director, Kenya, & Sales Director Cloud Systems West & East Africa; Lorna Juma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Eastern Africa; and Oracle Academy student hub members from the University of Nairobi and Technical University of Kenya.
