Oracle Academy staff was excited to again join educators from across the nation at the Computer Science Teachers Association’s (CSTA) Annual Conference. The engaging event was held in Las Vegas, Nevada from July 16-19, 2024.

Oracle Academy team members Denise Hobbs, North America Senior Regional Director; Lisa Palombo, Curriculum Developer; Erik Young, Marketing Specialist; and Hanna Kosbab, Marketing Specialist, spent the week speaking with computer science teachers from across the country about Oracle Academy, Oracle’s global philanthropic education program. The team also was able to attend a keynote talk from Conor Peterson of Meow Wolf and explore offerings from many other organizations in the bustling exhibit hall.

Denise and Lisa presented twice during the event specifically for both CSTA Chapter leaders and computer science teachers on July 16 and 17, sharing information about key teaching resources such as Java and database-focused curriculum, professional certifications, and continuing professional development options offered through the program. During both presentations, Lisa gave a live demo of our Solve it with SQL and Java Puzzle Ball workshop-in-a-box resources, engaging interested audience members.

Managing the Oracle Academy booth, Erik and Hanna were joined by Melanie Lam, Director of the Alice Project. Teachers stopped by throughout the week to learn about Oracle Academy resources, sign up for the free program, and collect some great Oracle Academy swag to take back home. Our team enjoyed meeting with current and prospective Oracle Academy members. Of the experience, Hanna said, “It was fantastic to spend time in-person with so many faculty during the week. Hearing about the experiences of current members and the excitement from those learning about Oracle Academy for the first time made me incredibly excited to see how teachers will utilize our resources in the coming school year. These teachers’ passion for advancing computing education for their students is contagious!”
