In PeopleSoft Update Image 49, we released the Preferred Name or ‘Lived Names’ functionality promoting inclusivity and respect for individual identity within your organization.
Recognizing the importance of respecting individuals’ self-identification, this feature empowers users to specify their preferred name within our suite of software products.
A Preferred Name is the name an individual chooses to be called by, which may differ from their legal or birth name.
Using Preferred Names, organizations can seamlessly integrate a personalized approach, promoting a workplace culture that values and respects the diverse identities of its members.
PeopleSoft FSCM has added the ability to identify an employee by something other than their legal name. After applying the preferred name enhancements in your environment, you can begin updating the Personal Data record for Preferred Names and Display Name.
In this example, Stephen Lawson would like to use a preferred first name of Steve and his display name should include a suffix for Junior.
Organizations integrated -with PeopleSoft HCM should make the updates for Preferred/Lived names in the HCM application first as there are validations and rules for acceptable naming conventions that would prevent undesirable values from being allowed as updates and passed on to other pillar tables. This update to FSCM is accomplished with Version 9 of the Person Basic Synch and Full Synch messages to update the Personal Data tables. These new messages are available in HCM Update Image 49.
If your organization is not integrated with PeopleSoft HCM, an administrator may directly update the Personal Data of employees in PeopleSoft FSCM. New fields will appear on the page allowing for input of the new name information for the employee.
Once your organization is ready to display the preferred name on pages, you need to select the ‘Display Preferred Name’ checkbox on the Installation Options page and Save.
This selection will trigger a process to update the personal data record. Once the process has completed, users will see the Preferred Display Name on pages where the legal name was previously displayed. Pages and processes that require a legal name will continue to do so.
With the Release of the Preferred/Lived Names feature, we are proud to support both legislative and regulatory requirements as well as your desire to support inclusivity and recognition within your organization. This capability not only empowers individuals to express their identities authentically but also fosters an environment where diversity is celebrated. By acknowledging and implementing Preferred/Lived Names, you are taking a significant step towards ensuring that every user feels seen, respected, and valued. We believe that embracing individual identities is key to creating a workplace culture that thrives on the strength of its diverse members. We look forward to hearing the positive impact this feature will have on your organization.
