Q: What made you decide to join the Oracle team?

A: I’ve spent my entire career working with government, so when I started thinking about my next chapter, it was important to join a company that’s truly committed to improving how the public sector serves citizens. Oracle really embodies that mindset. The commitment to innovation, the investment in AI and new applications, and the focus on solving real problems for government agencies all stood out to me.  But, just as important were the people. Some I’ve known through decades in this space, and others I met for the first time—but across the board, I saw a team that’s not only talented but deeply committed to customer success in meeting and exceeding their goals. Oracle invests in both technology and people, and that’s what made it the right place for me.

Q: How did your background in public service and government prepare you for this role?

A: My background in state government as a Director of Licensing helped shape how I approach conversations with public sector agencies today. I’ve been on the other side. I understand the realities of limited staff, tight timelines, and the hesitation that often comes with change. So, when I talk to customers, I try to actively listen: What are they trying to fix? What would success look like for them? I’ve seen how far things have come, from paper-based licensing to online services, and now to AI helping modernize routine tasks and decision-making. It’s been incredible to watch that evolution, and it’s meaningful to help others navigate it with practical insight.

Q: As a former industry professional, what feature(s) in OPAL get you most excited to talk to customers about?

A: As someone who’s worked in government and spoken with state and local agencies across the country, I’m most excited about OPAL’s citizen-facing features. Stronger communication between the public and government leads to greater trust and collaboration, and OPAL’s Customer Portal is a game-changer in that space. It provides clear, intuitive services that help citizens and businesses understand what’s required of them and manage tasks easily from any device. There’s no need to call an office or wait in line. That kind of accessibility not only improves the user experience but also reduces staff workload and boosts overall satisfaction on both sides.  And it is constantly evolving and improving with AI, GIS, and interactive tools.

Q: How do you think AI will impact government regulation?

A: AI is advancing rapidly, and while it’s natural for some to feel apprehensive about its impact on staff and government operations, I couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities. The benefits across process improvement, communication, and decision-making are enormous. For example, automating manual tasks, like validating and integrating paper documents into digital systems frees up valuable time and reduces errors. AI-generated messages with personalized account details streamline staff workflows, and AI-powered analytics offer something I wish I had years ago: instant access to data, trends, and forecasting tools that support faster, more informed decisions. The potential to improve services to customers is truly amazing.

Q: Karin – you are very close with your daughters, is there a particular experience that’s most memorable for you?

A: One of the most memorable experiences I’ve had with my daughters came during one of the hardest times in my life. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through a year of chemotherapy before starting this job. Throughout that journey, my daughters were my anchors. They showed unwavering support, strength, and love that helped me stay hopeful and focused on recovery. They reminded me every day what resilience looks like and inspired me to keep moving forward. Being able to return to work after that chapter, with their encouragement behind me, is something I’ll never take for granted. It’s a reminder of how much we can overcome when we lift each other up.
