MySQL will be at FOSDEM 2027, and we look forward to seeing you there!
FOSDEM takes place on January 30–31, 2027. As the world’s largest open-source conference, it brings together developers and contributors from across the globe. Places for its community-driven breakout tracks, known as developer rooms or devrooms, are highly sought after. We’re grateful to the volunteer organizers for selecting this year’s proposal and making room for talks about MySQL and its broad, diverse ecosystem. Their work makes this gathering possible, and we look forward to contributing to it.
Continuing a Tradition of Collaboration
Building on the tradition of the “MySQL, MariaDB and Friends” devrooms, this year’s track is “The M-ecosystem.” As Frederic “lefred” Descamps describes in his announcement, it will welcome talks spanning database servers, storage engines, connectors, proxies, and development tools.
We’re excited to continue that tradition of collaboration alongside the people and projects that make the MySQL ecosystem thrive: independent contributors, database projects, tools, connectors, storage engines, open-source applications, service providers, and the developers and DBAs who rely on MySQL every day.
That breadth is one of MySQL’s greatest strengths. Different experiences and perspectives help us understand what users need, solve shared challenges, and discover new opportunities for innovation. The devroom offers a place to continue that collaboration through technical talks, practical lessons from real deployments, and conversations with both familiar faces and first-time participants.
Beyond the devroom, FOSDEM is an opportunity to connect with the entire open-source community. Its European grassroots and volunteer-driven spirit make it a special gathering, bringing together people who build and sustain projects across technologies, many of which depend on and build upon a MySQL database. The MySQL Community team looks forward to being part of that exchange, sharing experiences and learning from others.
Shaping MySQL’s Future
MySQL has always been bigger than one product or one company. Its impact and enduring strength come from the people who use, develop, extend, support, and fork it. From those who port it to new platforms to those who teach it to the next generation, that community continues to make MySQL what it is.
Source code is one of the ways we move that work forward. A bug fix, a performance improvement, a new capability, or a patch shared across projects can make a difference to everyone building on MySQL. At FOSDEM, we look forward to getting into the code with fellow developers, comparing approaches, and working on contributions through GitHub.
We began this work at FOSDEM a year ago. We’re looking forward to returning to Brussels and continuing to build together.
Start with MySQL Belgian Days
Today, we also announced MySQL Belgian Days 2027, taking place on January 28–29, immediately before FOSDEM.
Belgian Days offers two days dedicated to MySQL technical sessions, community discussions, and conversations with engineers, contributors, developers, and DBAs. Registration and the Call for Papers are now open.
Our participation continues through the FOSDEM weekend, creating four days of opportunities to connect, share knowledge, and collaborate.
Whether you build applications, operate databases, maintain tools, or contribute code to MySQL or one of its many downstream forks, we hope you’ll join us. Bring your questions, ideas, and experiences, and we look forward to meeting you in Brussels!
