As part of the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure monitoring team in Bangalore, Anjali Verma is motivated to come to work due to the endless opportunities for learning and personal growth. Whether digging further into services or understanding new technologies, she finds ways to broaden her skillset every day. She’s sharing why focusing on grasping the fundamentals is the key to being successful.
Deep dives and career development
When it comes to finding her feet, Anjali is grateful to have such supportive managers, open to helping her along the way. Having resources and access to cutting-edge technology allowed her to spend time fine-tuning skills she’d need to better fulfil her role.
“The OCI teams have quite a steep learning curve. Managers always motivate you to have a sense of ownership for the services that you are working on. There is always an opportunity to learn new technologies, take on additional responsibilities, and contribute as much value as possible to the team,” she explains.
Continuing to highlight how the company puts thought into the future of each employee, she says, “I really love that OCI emphasizes professional development opportunities. This will really help me to build complex products in future. The peers are quite collaborative, and it’s great to work with them and solve complex business problems together. We focus on teamwork and help each other grow.
Technology like no other
“All the tech is in-house, so that lends a lot of learning opportunities for the employees. The teams here are quite flexible in adopting new technologies to solve complex business problems,” she tells of the opportunities she sees to get ahead when it comes to understanding new tech.
When explaining one of the great advantages of working at Oracle, she says it’s all in the systems, “our services are handling millions of requests, and we as a team are continuously working on building our systems to be resilient to accommodate such huge traffic.”
For Anjali personally, she has seen a huge development in her ability to work with services since joining the company. She says, “OCI is a good opportunity as teams here are building cloud services from scratch. Oracle’s Gen 2 cloud is combined with a rich suite of business applications. Working on these applications would be a great addition to my skill set.”
New hire non-negotiables
In terms of finding her perfect colleagues, there are a few checklist items that can’t be overlooked in Anjali’s opinion.
She shares, “There’s a steep learning curve in OCI, so I would prefer colleagues who are ready to learn new technologies, pick up things quickly and have excellent problem-solving skills. The person should be able to articulate a problem and solution specifically as communication is vital here. Being a team player is also a necessary skill to have.”
She leaves with some words of wisdom for anyone thinking about chasing a career in technology, “Focus on the fundamentals. Nailing the basics first will always guide you towards a better, more advanced solution. Also, get used to change. Things move fast—you need to be able to move with them and pick things up quickly.”
