Oracle Database - Karan Mantri

As part of Oracle’s Database Globalization Engineering team, Karan Mantri works with talented people that use the power of software to bring up great changes in business around the world. Read his answers to our Q&A session to learn about the experience he gains to grow his career as a software engineer.

Why did you join the Database Globalization Engineering team?

This team emphasizes on creating ways for customers with diverse cultures and linguistics to access amazing Oracle products seamlessly. I have a desire to make things accessible to people around the world by removing cultural barriers. As part of this team, I’ve been able to make it a reality. We’re all about delivering quality Oracle products to our valuable customers and respecting their preferences.

How’s a day in the life of a Member of Technical Staff in your team?

My day starts with a good cup of coffee, as I discuss our future goals with my team—it helps me stay active and elevated throughout the day. We spend most of our time ensuring Oracle products are well suited for English, Chinese, Japanese, and European languages, and that their literary configurations have top-notch performance all around. I deal with various platforms and their functionalities to assure they’re working fluently in every language (pun intended).

What inspires you in your role?

That every member in this team has individual ownership of projects, which enables a broader work spectrum for Oracle Database and Cloud products. Taking responsibility for my job, and making a difference, inspires me to perform at my best and support others.

Tell us more about the meaningful work that you do.

Creating and contributing to resources that make an impact on the company and its customers drives meaningful work. With Database Globalization Engineering, I work on things having a wide outreach in the global perspective. Reaching this kind of user base, and making sure it transforms their business in a better way, is what keeps me motivated throughout.

What can you tell us about Oracle’s culture and work environment?

They’re both amazing! The offices are well equipped with modern facilities, including those for indoor sports. Oracle’s values, beliefs, leadership, and attitude towards doing great things make it a dream place to be. Its flexible working hours and ability to work from out of the office really help in maintaining an important work-life balance. We have fun activities at work, like planting trees to help the environment, and going on team outings.
