Initially attracted to chasing a career in tech at Oracle for the potential to be exposed to the cloud, it was the culture towards establishing a healthy work-life balance that really captured Nitika Qazi’s attention. Having time and support to step away from the laptop and enjoy other things outside of the world of technology has helped Nitika become a better senior software developer and keeps her logging on to work with a smile on her face. She’s sharing why she continues to create the future with us.
Collaboration during Covid-19
Joining during the pandemic, Nitika was apprehensive as to how onboarding and establishing a working rhythm with a new team of people would unfold. However, she was pleasantly surprised how cohesive and collaborative things were from the get-go.
She explains, “The team that I’m currently working with got hired during the pandemic. So, in the beginning, we used to have a lot of fun meetings to get to know each other. I think, all these things, they foster a bond between teammates. And today, I mean, one and a half years apart, I think we all have a very good relationship. We’re there to help each other whenever anybody needs it.”
It was over this time too that she began to explore hobbies and interests isolated from her work, facilitated by the work-life balance Oracle afforded her.
“One of my favorite things about my job is the work life balance. I’ve been able to prioritize my passions, my hobbies, along with my work, with the support from my wonderful teammates.”
A life beyond the 9-5
Having time to power down the laptop and lift your head from the inner workings of the technology world is massively important, something Nitika especially noticed over the course of Covid as everyone was working from home. She found that being part of a company that also saw the value in taking time out, helped her through any difficulties she experienced during lockdowns.
“With working from home, there was a point that it got very difficult to actually shut down your laptop. Luckily, the team is quite understanding in the sense that they get that everybody needs a few hours off. I think that’s very essential for my mental sanity as well, she shares.
Continuing on, Nitika speaks of Oracle’s attitude towards employee wellness in general, “I also believe that, as a company, Oracle gives a lot of importance to mental health, with the Employee Assistance Program, and other health related sessions. They’re really trying to bring in a good culture and focus on the employees’ health.”
Ready, set, work
After spending some time in the company, the senior developer has already made great moves towards success. What’s her secret? She leaves us with her biggest learning and piece of advice for anyone wanting to pursue a career at Oracle.
“It’s going to be really fast paced but you get the push you need to be able to be successful. You’ve got to get rolling. It’s not going to be slow. It’s going to be intense but super helpful and a great learning experience!”
