From the moment Catrina joined Oracle she was thrown into the deep end in the best way possible. Spending time learning the different products, processes, and technology, she felt both supported and positively challenged throughout the process. She feels in control of her career direction and her ability to create her own future.

First impressions

Wanting to work somewhere that put passion at the center of their ethos and operations, Catrina was attracted to Oracle after graduation, because of its reputation for innovative technology and competitiveness.

She says, “I wanted to be driven by passion, be inspired by innovating technology, and continue to learn new skills and knowledge that I can apply in my future with the company.”

She continues by highlighting her surprise at the nurturing atmosphere for new hires, “When I first joined Oracle, I was surprised with the supportive environment that promotes self-managing employees. I was also amazed to learn that Oracle provides transparency and trusts their employees when it comes to job performance and expectations.”

Women winning in tech

Another aspect of life at Oracle that inspires and fulfils Catrina, is the emphasis on diversity and inclusion – especially when it comes to females working in technology.

“As a woman in tech, I feel proud to be given the opportunity to become an applications engineer. Being part of a company that supports gender diversity and inclusion, I have always felt welcome in the tech community.”

At Oracle, we work hard to celebrate diverse backgrounds and perspectives, something Catrina has noticed has a big impact on the ability to bring new ideas to the table.

She comments that “Diversity and inclusion is important to any organization because I believe having a more diverse team improves the creativity and innovation. A variety of team members that come from different backgrounds, cultures, experiences, skill levels, or age groups opens the possibility of having different inputs, perspective, and approaches to the solution.”

Learning and developing for a future at Oracle

Right from the start of her time with the company, a focus on learning and developing both as a professional and individual was emphasized by her leaders and teammates. This was an atmosphere that allowed Catrina to explore every angle of her role and move forward feeling equipped and ready.

My team is exposed to different areas of the product, to name a few: code changes, script fix, issues related to security, file manager, web services, and others. There’s opportunity to improve our skills and product specific knowledge. Companies from the Fortune 500 are currently using Oracle’s product, and it’s exciting to be able to provide solutions to their issues. The technologies we’re currently using are: Java, SQL, File Manager, Web Services,” Catrina explains.

Alongside the resources and a chance to try new things, new hires and graduates are welcomed into an open, inclusive environment that promotes success. It’s because of this, Catrina would encourage everyone to join Oracle.
