Nada Hassan is an Advanced Services Engineer with Generation Oracle (GenO,) where she supports customers with all things related to Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Capital Management and HRM.
As a fresh graduate from an HR BA, she was reluctant to get into the tech industry right away, especially without a background in computer science.
GenO’s Advanced Support Engineer pathway turned out to be the answer thanks to its emphasis on business knowledge. With that foundation, Nada was empowered to learn on the job while acquiring the soft skills and technical knowledge she needed to thrive.
Realizing ambitions
Professionally, she’s always seen herself at the forefront of business with a special interest in the technology that keeps things running behind the scenes.
“My university studies included modern business practices, including technologies used in running businesses like ERP, HCM, and SCM. That’s when I realized that the future is in these business technologies!” she shares.
“I’m quite ambitious: I decided I won’t just work for any company that offers these technologies, but I’ll aim for the best: Oracle.”
Support from the start
The interview process supported this approach from the very beginning. Her interviewers showed in-depth knowledge of her academic background and had already considered how it would fit with GenO.
During onboarding, Nada was supported by a dedicated mentor, and engaged, accessible management and colleagues. It meant she had everything she needed to be comfortable, learn, and develop.
Her favorite part of the program is the shadowing period where GenO participants observe the pros at work helping customers.
“The amount of experience I’ve gained by matching self-paced training with real-life customer business scenarios is incredible,” she explains.
Knowledge flows
Nada’s decision worked out well. Now, she’s in the thick of all kinds of business innovations from AI and ML to the newest features boosting employee wellness in Oracle Fusion and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
The rate of change and innovation is rapid, but the overall organizational experience is still rock solid.
“Oracle is a true knowledge transfer organization. Here, everyone is always willing to help you learn and grow. My manager is incredibly supportive, and my colleagues are welcoming and encouraging.”
“As someone with an academic background, the constant state of learning with a golden repository of learning materials excites me!”
Like every other Oracle employee, GenO participants get access to comprehensive learning resources such as Oracle University, O’Reilly, LinkedIn Learning, and Harvard ManageMentor, along with too many internal portals and repositories to list here!
Dream career
Long-term professional development matters too, and Nada sees a clear career path ahead of her. With time and experience, she’ll be placed to become a subject matter expert on human capital management and human resources management systems.
A role like this would put her in a strong position to realize her career dream of contributing to large software development projects that affect thousands of people.
“It’s a development opportunity like no other,” Nada explains. “You’re offered a thrilling learning environment, nurturing support, an amazing community, and managers to unlock your potential.”
Time to unwind
Work-life balance matters on her team, and she has plenty of time to indulge her interests—and take care of her most important customers at home: her cats Kiwi and Candy.
When she’s not helping customers succeed, she’s getting hands-on with a host of hobbies from crocheting and knitting to pottery and playing music.
“Manual arts and activities intrigue me,” she explains. It’s no surprise given how hands-on she likes to get with solving customer challenges.
Golden ticket
Her top advice to anyone considering the program is to be willing to put yourself out there.
“Always ask, always investigate, and always research. When you’re surrounded by amazing people like ones here at Oracle, you’ll be answered with knowledge like no other. People will help accelerate your learning, so don’t be shy!”
“I’d describe the GenO program as the Golden Ticket to joining the industry. And not just any company in the industry—a true trailblazer.”
