From relocation help to finding a community that cares, principle software engineer Mo Lariani, feels like he hit the jackpot when it comes to securing his job at NetSuite in Waterloo. Following a seamless onboarding experience and slotting straight into a culture of like-minded, ambitious individuals, three years later he still jumps out of bed excited for the day ahead—here’s why.
The search begins
It was a quick search on LinkedIn that introduced the software engineer to the world of NetSuite. Realizing the opportunities it would offer and what a supportive company it is for professional growth, he hit apply.
From the very beginning of his interview process, Mo knew he’d made the right decision. Feeling welcomed from the word go, he can’t emphasis enough how positive and professional each stage was,
“The screening process was very comfortable and laid back. The recruiters and HMs were super accommodating as I was living in another country and had to do virtual interviewing before that was a ‘Covid thing’.”
Drinking the Waterloo cool-aid
Aside from a new career opportunity, Mo was looking for a personal change too. By coincidence, the region of Waterloo had caught his eye and also happened to be NetSuite’s base. Immediately, the company’s open and active community made him feel at ease with the move and settle in faster than he could’ve hoped for.
Through a series of NetSuite led seminars and events, Mo met a lot of talented people who lead tech initiatives in the region. Oracle NetSuite have been at the forefront of many events in the area and he has seen the unique company values in action as they support education initiatives and welcome students with open arms.
“We also contribute a great deal to the community for example by doing pro bono projects, as well as being heavily involved in coaching and mentoring college students. Being involved in this and directly in touch with the community is always very rewarding,” highlights Mo.
A culture that cares
“As a principal software engineer in the ERP cash management team, I lead a small team of engineers in designing, developing, and maintaining cash-management features in the NetSuite product, as well as helping interview and mentor new hires,” Mo explains of his day-to-day. He strongly believes it’s the people surrounding him that have helped him achieve his personal career goals since he joined the company in 2018.
Often staying late after work just to hang out with his colleagues, Mo says it’s the unique atmosphere that radiates from NetSuite that has enriched his career thus far, “There is a high degree of psychological safety on the team. The vibes are great, you feel like you can be yourself and express your opinions. People are comfortable saying what they want and who they are.”
